Saints spend the least on agent fees in the Premier League
SAINTS have spent the least amount of money of any of the 20 Premier League clubs when it comes to agent fees, it has been revealed.
The figures, released by the Premier League this evening, show that Southampton spent £646,106 on agents fees.
The next lowest was Norwich City, who spent almost double Saints' outlay with a bill of £1,248,725.
West Ham and Reading, who were promoted with Saints, have spent £4,436,992 and £2,167,833 respectively.
The biggest spenders were Manchester City, who made payments totalling £10,537,982.
In total, the 20 clubs spent £77,003,130. The fees cover the last two transfer windows - January 2012 and the summer just gone.

However, I do wonder if this is anything to do with the fact that a couple of summer targets got away. If you're an agent, you're motivated to send your clients to the customer who pays you the most, not necessarily the club offering the best overall package to a player.
So, put yourself in the shoes of Buttner's agent. Do you send him to Saints, who will screw your fees down, or to Man U, who will pay anything you ask from their bottomless pit of funds? The fact is that he's had 1 game in the league with Man U versus probably 13 with Saints if he'd come here. I wonder if the agent thought of that or just the agency fee when he was advising Buttner? Hmmm...difficult one

I have no idea why the club pays an agent representing someone else.
Just a thought. Why does the player not pay his agent from his signing on fee..... or will that just mean larger signing on fees!!!!!!! But would read better. Good job if you can get it.
I have also heard of cases of a single agent representing the selling club, the player and the buying club. In any other walk of life this is seen as a conflict of interest and would be illegal. Surely it is a conflict of interest - how can you claim to have represented your client to the best of your ability if in fact you have three clients all involved in the same deal?!?

IMO most agents would give Mr Cortese a wide berth knowing that Solent Interiors, due to be paid what Agents would call a chicken feed, measly, £60k, in May were still awaiting payment in November despite two Court cases.

Went for 7 million, 3.5 going to his agent. 50% to the agent ? Good grief, we are well out of that. Good on you N.C. And keep N.A. while you are at it. I would rather go down with him at the helm playing great football than getting rid, and scraping survival.

Cortese found his match, they were a lot tougher than the programme sellers and painters and decorators that have been sh*t on and wouldn't stand for it.
Happy Clappers may think Cortese has done a good job, in my book quite the reverse
Pay peanuts in agents' fees and get monkeys ---- not one of the allegedly £33m pounds worth of talent has yet to prove themselves worthy of the transfer fee paid by Cortese.
Maybe that's the reason why Saints are second from bottom.

We were one of the biggest spenders yet spent less than anyone else on agents, far less. Even Theborer would have to admit that is a great achievement by NC.
Well done NC!
Looking after our club interest and not allowing agents to rob us blind! Now NC knockers can see in balancing the books NC has worked his magic, and kept Southampton FC with a healthy future.
Give NC a year or two more time and I would say much more is to come in where the club stands finacially, quality of players, and success with the team!
Bottom line NC is not talking the talk like other clubs, his actions speak louder than words, and he is quitely changing the image the club is seen in the media, he is standing up to the bigger clubs, he is building the club from grass roots to the first team and with a plan to actually make this work (again action, not just words), and the result is and will be respect for Southampton FC, which plays good attractive attacking football and will soon sit up there in the top six on soundly run foootballing merit!

Not really a surprise is it. Your club has taken a massive risk here - and without the couple of good results this week, you could have been already buried in tems of points and confidence. Yes - Agents are cack, and are greedy limpets - but are now part of the furniture and if you want to move up the table and play with the bigger boys, you need to play with a few more agents as well; but to a controlled degree.
