Ex-Saints boss to swoop for Lallana?

Ex-Saints boss to swoop for Lallana? Ex-Saints boss to swoop for Lallana?

Ex-Saints boss Alan Pardew is rumoured to be lining up a £5million bid for Saints skipper Adam Lallana.

Newcastle boss Pardew, who left St Mary’s in 2010, has long been an admirer of Saints’ talismanic captain and is said to be lining up a bid in the January transfer window, according to reports in the national press.

The 23-year-old Lallana only put pen to paper on a new four-year contract last year and has been one of Saints’ stand-out performers so far in their first season back in the top flight.

He seems to have done an interview with an Italian journalist. He was probably asked if he would consider going back to Italy and what he thought of Fiorentina, and probably said something nice about both of them. That's all, I hope.

Talking out of your nether regions, why would a young bloke who has just had his first kid want to go through the massive upheaval of moving to the other end of the Country to join a Club that is little better than the one he is currently Captaining? It won't be for the money and there is little chance of bettering his lot there.

I think you may be surprised what a little tug from another club can do. Whether he goes or not, acknowledged interest will stoke things up no end. Not only does it unsettle the individual, it unsettles team mates. Children or not, the lure from others is always explored....you better keep your fingers crossed....

It's not a case of what we would take, it is more of a case of what is offered.

If Saints a relegated, then the gates will be smaller and a reduced income. No doubt there are players on very high wages with long contracts. The club would need to reduce its wage bill.

Also, would Lallana want to play Championship football again now that he has tasted life in the Premier Legue?

I agree. I also prefer the championship.

Why?

Because there is always the hope at the beginning of the season that you can be top of the league.

In the Premier League you know that the champions will inevitably be one of about four teams.

Success is to end the season in the top half, but invariably, your eyes are firmly focused on the relegation positions.

I would far rather watch a winning run in the championship than a losing run in the Premier League.

The ideal would be an amalgamation of both Southampon FC and Portsmouth FC, playing in a 60,000 seater stadium in the Solent region. Then there would be the prospect of a Premier League team that could challenge for top spot.

Unfortunately, although it would make economic and footballing sense, the supporters of both clubs are so bigotted that they would not see the sense and it would never happen.

Umm I was only saying for myself I prefer the championship as due to finances at the moment I can't afford to get to many away games which ultimately will mean I miss games later on in the season.

Saints also have a youth system and training facilities that are second to none.
As long as the recent improvement continues Saints will survive in the Premiership and the 5 year plan they had WILL become a reality.
As for amalgamating Saints & Pompey
it makes no sense to amalgamate whatsoever. The foundations Saints have built, they will move higher and in a couple of years have the potential to be playing in the Champions league
I feel very sorry for Pompey fans who have so little to offer to potential investors, their only hope might come from the fans themselves who can make a donation to help them survive. A very sad situation.

So you were presumably disappointed that we were promoted last year. How curious. And you've come up with the expression 'shooting above our weight' - there are no weight divisions in shooting, light people can shoot as well as heavy people. You've obviously heard a phrase and thought it sounded good but regrettably got it wrong.
Do you not think that if we went down two divisions we'd do really well again in League 1?
The Premiership is a learning curve (not unlike a shooting curve in your world) and we are getting there slowly. 17th this year is fine and, as someone said yesterday, mid-table anonymity after that. If you are more comfortable in the Championship, support a Championship club.

Fair enough, but your negative comments are not helpful or appreciated by us happy clappers who only want to hear positives even when things are not going right. Of course you are fully entitled to make your opinions known but don't expect too much support from those on here, except Theborer and a couple of WUMs.

I think Adam L will stay at Southampton as long as we remain in the Prem.but should we go down then i fear the floodgates will open and many of our young stars will succomb to the lure of filthy lucre.I imagine that the agents have already got done deals up their sleeves if the doomsday relegation scenario comes to pass.

Sistermum you are so so negative where Saints are concerned and as someone suggested you come across as being disappointed that Saints are in the Premiership.
Our beloved Club has a 'game plan" which we are 2 years ahead on, something no one can argue with. Everything that has happened is not "too much too soon" as you suggest. It is the result of a lot of hard work and very positive results that have been achieved over the past 2 1/2 years.

Yes we have got off to a somewhat disappointing start but even with only 4 points from 10 games the team played some excellent football against both of the Manchester luck. I think they were a little overwhelmed by the fact they were beating these teams and lost there confidence in the closing minutes.

We are now at 12 points from 15 games and in contention top move higher in the standings and have performed well in 4 of our last 5 matches which bodes well moving forward.

Come on we sympathize with the dire predicament Pompey is in but Saints are currently the pride of the South coast and have the ability to move forward and upwards from here.

Try not to be so negative Sistermum....dwell on the positives so much is and has been achieved, this being the reason for the optimism that so many of us share.

Poor Pompey I wish them luck as they and their fans have little going for them due to the unsavoury owners who destroyed the Club

For those with short memories, the rot set in with Martin Chivers, Mick Channon, Steve Williams and the Wallace brothers but luckily Rupert (I just hope there is a hell so the b*stard can burn for all eternity) Lowe is not lining his pockets at the helm. Whatever people think of Cortese, he is a shrewd business man who understands that to sell your best players is to get relegated. WE DON'T NEED THE MONEY!

The Guardian covered this in their football Rumour Mill column today. Here is what they wrote. I think they are right in every respect:

Alan Pardew is fondly remembered in Southampton but one Johnstone Paints Trophy win does not create enough goodwill to forgive luring away Adam Lallana, which is what he's plotting to do according to the Daily Mirror. The Mill reckons that is unlikely to happen in January and Lallana would only consider moving if Southampton take the last relegation spot after QPR and Reading, in which case the entire backbone of the future England team could be picked up, with Lallana, Jack Cork, Nathaniel Clyne, Luke Shaw and bright young prospect Rickie Lambert all besieged by would-be buyers.

Because there is always the hope at the beginning of the season that you can be top of the league.

If you read what I said, I used the word 'IDEAL'. The IDEAL would be an amalgamation.

We do not live in an Ideal world, and although the theory may be ideal, the mix of fans would not. Both would rather dream of being Champions of the Premier League and Champions of Europe, rather than allow something to happen that could possibly make that dream come true.

Bigot n Person who is intolerant, especially regarding religion, politics or race - and what about football team/club?

I fully understand that you, and thousands of other Southampton and Portsmouth supporters would not support such a move, and it is most unlikely that it would happen.

There would be as much chance of an amalgamated Solent football club as there would of Poopy actually getting a full Farton Park.

A team uniting saints and Pompey fans would be the best way to move into a top ten position regularly, and challenge for proper honors.

It will never happen, but it's a good idea.
Why don't we all just abandon our clubs and have a single team representing all of England. We would qualify every year for the Champions League. That's stupid and so is your idea. The whole point about supporting your club is that it is your team, not other fans' .

So because I only support one club I am a biggot,I find that very insulting as you obviously have NO idea what it is that I and thousands of others feel for Southampton the high's and the low's
Bigot n Person who is intolerant, especially regarding religion, politics or race - and what about football team/club?

I fully understand that you, and thousands of other Southampton and Portsmouth supporters would not support such a move, and it is most unlikely that it would happen.

There would be as much chance of an amalgamated Solent football club as there would of Poopy actually getting a full Farton Park.
I hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime anyway.
He is ignorng the point that as a Soton or poopey fan that is it, if you join them therefore change what is it then becomes a different and new club, it's like trying to get sence out of a poopey fan (not popey fan as my miss type just spelt) although I am not accusing him of being one as that is low

To be fair...the hoops done well. But let's face facts here..Celtic will always qualify to play champions league due to the fact that they have no domestic opposition whatsoever. It's hardly a challenge.

The laws of averages denote they had to qualify to the last 16 after so many years of trying.

Well played by them nonetheless.

I just hope we can and the delusions will then stop.Let's be realistic!

THERE IS NO WAY SISTERMUM IS A SAINTS FAN!

I think global warming may make that highly unlikely.

Maybe it will be like remembering the history of your club - like the Old Carthusians.

I think Pompey will just move their ground up the hill.

Sadly, no local hills in your town.

Those turkey twizzlers just aint good for the body.

And fish is great for the brain. And you need to protect that - as the fluoride will be kicking in soon.

Well. The authorities that be, that will be actually (cos they will be disbanding the authority that made the decision) will be putting that sh!te in your water, unless the European court overthrows it, and its poison, and has so many side effects its untrue. I mentioned this quite a few times, but almost all of your posters weren't really bothered - which kind of didn't suprise me. I even said to a few of my buddies - that it would be interesting to try to talk to a wide demographic (ie footy fans come from all walks of life), and see what response I got - and the fact that this would be coming from a skate - would it make more of an impact?

Jellicoe - why? really. An admiral from Southampton - gotta be called a skate hasn't he?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

STID
The children will have cast aside their Westwood PJs, thrown away their little plastic trumpets and adorned themselves in their red and white deck chair attire. At 1pm there is a mass exodus from Portsmouth as the Saints fans leave to watch their team at the 48000 seater SMS, stopping at the Saints Megastore to buy the latest accessories, you know the place that used to be called Fratton Park!
Later, when back at home after watching the mighty Saints crush another team, Mrs Skate is approached by her neighbour.
"Didn't you used to be a PFC fan?" Mrs Fisheye enquires
"I know" replies Mrs Skate somewhat embarrased. " It started with the kids really" she said " We just took them for a day out, but the football was so good we became hooked, we've never seen footie like it"
"Maybe I should give it a go" said Mrs Fisheye
"Well we saw your husband there last week" replied Mrs Skate laughingly.
Suddenly little Ricky runs up and says "Mum, what do OKI and Jobsite mean"
"Why do you ask little Lambo?"
"In the toilets at SMS today they had run out of toilet paper and had old football shirts with Portsmouth FC on them to wipe your botty with, did we have a football team here then?"
"Yes but they were sh1te and died" Mrs Skate snapped
" But I am from Portsmouth, so should I be Pompey, Should I be Saints?"
Here's what she said to Rickie.....

I predict in 10 years time, children in Portsmouth will come out of their houses sporting their finest deck chair apparel! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA STID
"Didn't you used to be a PFC fan?" Mrs Fisheye enquires "I know" replies Mrs Skate somewhat embarrased. " It started with the kids really" she said " We just took them for a day out, but the football was so good we became hooked, we've never seen footie like it" "Maybe I should give it a go" said Mrs Fisheye "Well we saw your husband there last week" replied Mrs Skate laughingly. Suddenly little Ricky runs up and says "Mum, what do OKI and Jobsite mean" "Why do you ask little Lambo?" "In the toilets at SMS today they had run out of toilet paper and had old football shirts with Portsmouth FC on them to wipe your botty with, did we have a football team here then?" "Yes but they were sh1te and died" Mrs Skate snapped " But I am from Portsmouth, so should I be Pompey, Should I be Saints?" Here's what she said to Rickie..... STIFD
The problem with the scenario you are stating, is that the Pompey kids who will then be so much brighter than their Soton counterparts (a lot more than they are even now), will easily "persuade" the Soton halfwits to move the stadium lock stock and barrel to Pompey. The Soton halfwits won't even remember who Westwood was.

I do honestly think JW would lift the atmosphere at your place a few notches.

I was being nice there. You're season, Seriously. Don't forget to sell Adam at the end of it though. Traditions are traditions.
very true....so here's to your next administration.
Ah,

Here'a man who doesn't need to get up in the morning.

Only 3 admins so far. Hardly traditional.

How many seasons out of say the last 25 didn't you sell a player?

Seriously interested. You don't have to give me the textbook response - "that's why we always have money".
We do sell players Gloria, that's the nature of the beast though isn't it, generally for fcuking good money though, unfortunately old Rupert used to do it to for the money! Not for the team! He averaged an investment into players of 250k per year, hardly going to get us success was it! Think thats why GS left when he did. The last few years have been different though, not sold much but sold big! When the right money comes alng you gotta take it! Look at Ronaldo, Man U jumped at the money! RVP at Arsenal! It is what it is!

Good thinking Sheila. Those turkey twizzlers just aint good for the body. And fish is great for the brain. And you need to protect that - as the fluoride will be kicking in soon. Seriously Sheila, you will be walking round in your retirement robes, just trying to get one or two sensible conversations out of the Southampton kids in 10 years time. It worries me greatly.
I have noticed that about your posts Gloria, you do seem somewhat obsessed with the flouride situation, that and Jellicoe of course! Why so?

But you are a reader. A lot of people these days don't read. As I say, just interested in how much interest there would be.

BTW - the petitions - don't know about them, but at the main demo meeting - around 100 people turned up - that was it.

I did say your battle there is biger than ours for our footy club.

How is a player valued?
If JR is worth £7m and Ramirez £12m then on footballing ability and contribution to Saints' performance, week in and week out, Adam must be worth £25m!
That would make Adam's value three and a half times JR's and twice Ramirez's.
The flaw in this argument of course is basing respective values on the grossly inflated fees Cortese paid for these two, at best, average performers.
Good old Alan is having a joke, he knows, as well as anyone, that Adam is worth £10m at least, makng JR's worth roughly £3m and Ramirez's £5m ---- £8M for the two!!
Can it be that our illustrious Chairman has been taken to the cleaners to the tune of £11m?? --- surely not!! --- the see no:hear no:speak no, Happy Clappers could never conceive their hero has made such a gross error!
Judging by these two players contribution on the pitch so far, I can't see many fair minded people who really know the game, disagreeing with my wise, experienced and brilliantly calculated, assessment.
Now, ---- think about it----- how many programme sellers do you have to sack and how many contractors do you refuse to pay, to recoup £11m ? ---------Answers on a post card please to NC c/o SMS, Southampton.

Tebourba, I've said this before several times. Your obsession is unhealthy.

You can't even talk about AL's value without turning it into an attack on your fixation, Nicola Cortese.

I'm not suggesting you should be committed - as you suggested I was doing the other day - just that you should see your GP and get them to refer you to someone about this.

I'm deadly serious; this is clearly a problem. Please do go and deal with it.

By the way Tebourba, posting that kind of stuff at 3:30 in the morning is just another indicator. Go and see your GP for your own sake.

Moron Glory and The Borer on here in the early hours? Spooky. Sleep deprivation can lead to the OCD prevalent here.

... and no response to the Staplewood issue. Just one WUM post intended to draw a response, then nothing, what a waste of space. Not clear whether just a nasty piece of work, or just sick.

I fully understand that you, and thousands of other Southampton and Portsmouth supporters would not support such a move, and it is most unlikely that it would happen.

There would be as much chance of an amalgamated Solent football club as there would of Poopy actually getting a full Farton Park.

As I am fast approaching my 80s, I can remember when Saints were kitted out by Toomers. No names or adverts on their shirts, just numbers.

I also remember that, when Saints were away, Pompey were at home, and many fans went to The Dell one week and Fratton Park the next.

It was in the days when away fans were not separated from home fans, and they got to know each other and compared opinions on clubs, teams and players.

The football authorities, in their wisdom (or lack of) decided that, after crowd trouble at, I believe, Leeds, there should be segregation.

This, in my opinion, did not solve the problem, but made it worse. Instead of mingling with away supporters, they were separated, and that is when the chanting began, because the 'enemy' were all in one section.

I did use the term, 'In an IDEAL world', but these days football is far from being an ideal world, and we have the Football Authorities to thank for their contribution to this state of affairs.

Why so?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH I really like those bits now. cheers for the idea
I think you are looking on the wrong threads Gloria! On here we just want to talk footie but there have been threads about the flouride issue and I have commented on such. Doesn't mean that no one is interested. There have been petitions and all sorts going on, for me the flouride is a secondary issue (although I don't want it) The real issue is the lack of democracy and choice but that , it seems is symptomatic of this country in general. They know what's best for us and they will decide whether we want it or not! Just like European membership, just like draconian smoking laws, the list is endless
Agree Sheila.

But you are a reader. A lot of people these days don't read. As I say, just interested in how much interest there would be.

BTW - the petitions - don't know about them, but at the main demo meeting - around 100 people turned up - that was it.

I did say your battle there is biger than ours for our footy club.

Monster.

Fair play for signing it, but seriously 600ish, and you sometimes get 50 times that number for a footy home game. So many people have just got their eye off the ball here - if you excuse my pun.

Politicians for the main part, are just puppets. I bet 75pc of them don't really understand how it really works at the very top level. Sad but true.

Thank for the invite, but I am going to a take-over party that day. An old friend is finally coming home. PUP

Absolutely, it's a small pond but their fan base is so big they would be a big fish in a big pond too.
But they are not in a big pond, are they? Celtic only have training games for most of the season. Every game is tough in the Prem. Full-on pressure, no relaxing, or you pay. Celtic just have relaxing warm-ups and warm-downs.

Rivalry? Yes!

Rioting? No!

Just a couple of incidents produced crowd segregation, and instead of improving the situation, things have steadily got worse.

Before segregation, if there was fighting, it was usually between themselves, and not involving opposing fans. It usually started in the local pub, and continued on the terraces.

With segregation, as I have said, the opposition is easily identified, and away fans are usually let out after the home fans, giving the home fans time to prepare an ambush.
