Ex-Saints boss to swoop for Lallana?
Ex-Saints boss Alan Pardew is rumoured to be lining up a £5million bid for Saints skipper Adam Lallana.
Newcastle boss Pardew, who left St Mary’s in 2010, has long been an admirer of Saints’ talismanic captain and is said to be lining up a bid in the January transfer window, according to reports in the national press.
The 23-year-old Lallana only put pen to paper on a new four-year contract last year and has been one of Saints’ stand-out performers so far in their first season back in the top flight.

What's the Ramirez rumours? More Echo propaganda? If we go down, then I expect our better players to go, that just happens, but I also hope they stay and fight to keep us up for the whole season.

If Saints a relegated, then the gates will be smaller and a reduced income. No doubt there are players on very high wages with long contracts. The club would need to reduce its wage bill.
Also, would Lallana want to play Championship football again now that he has tasted life in the Premier Legue?

Why?
Because there is always the hope at the beginning of the season that you can be top of the league.
In the Premier League you know that the champions will inevitably be one of about four teams.
Success is to end the season in the top half, but invariably, your eyes are firmly focused on the relegation positions.
I would far rather watch a winning run in the championship than a losing run in the Premier League.
The ideal would be an amalgamation of both Southampon FC and Portsmouth FC, playing in a 60,000 seater stadium in the Solent region. Then there would be the prospect of a Premier League team that could challenge for top spot.
Unfortunately, although it would make economic and footballing sense, the supporters of both clubs are so bigotted that they would not see the sense and it would never happen.

Saints had their problems but currently have a marvellous organisation with premiership football , huge financial backing and a Manager who has performed miracles with back to back promotions.
Saints also have a youth system and training facilities that are second to none.
As long as the recent improvement continues Saints will survive in the Premiership and the 5 year plan they had WILL become a reality.
As for amalgamating Saints & Pompey
it makes no sense to amalgamate whatsoever. The foundations Saints have built, they will move higher and in a couple of years have the potential to be playing in the Champions league
I feel very sorry for Pompey fans who have so little to offer to potential investors, their only hope might come from the fans themselves who can make a donation to help them survive. A very sad situation.

Our beloved Club has a 'game plan" which we are 2 years ahead on, something no one can argue with. Everything that has happened is not "too much too soon" as you suggest. It is the result of a lot of hard work and very positive results that have been achieved over the past 2 1/2 years.
Yes we have got off to a somewhat disappointing start but even with only 4 points from 10 games the team played some excellent football against both of the Manchester luck. I think they were a little overwhelmed by the fact they were beating these teams and lost there confidence in the closing minutes.
We are now at 12 points from 15 games and in contention top move higher in the standings and have performed well in 4 of our last 5 matches which bodes well moving forward.
Come on we sympathize with the dire predicament Pompey is in but Saints are currently the pride of the South coast and have the ability to move forward and upwards from here.
Try not to be so negative Sistermum....dwell on the positives so much is and has been achieved, this being the reason for the optimism that so many of us share.
Poor Pompey I wish them luck as they and their fans have little going for them due to the unsavoury owners who destroyed the Club

I think the rot set in during the rupert lowe era when Wayne Bridge went to chelsea..One of the benefits of leaving THE DELL , according to the gospel of Saint Rupert ,was that we wouldn't have to be a selling club anymore. How wrong was he about that one.
I think Adam L will stay at Southampton as long as we remain in the Prem.but should we go down then i fear the floodgates will open and many of our young stars will succomb to the lure of filthy lucre.I imagine that the agents have already got done deals up their sleeves if the doomsday relegation scenario comes to pass.

Alan Pardew is fondly remembered in Southampton but one Johnstone Paints Trophy win does not create enough goodwill to forgive luring away Adam Lallana, which is what he's plotting to do according to the Daily Mirror. The Mill reckons that is unlikely to happen in January and Lallana would only consider moving if Southampton take the last relegation spot after QPR and Reading, in which case the entire backbone of the future England team could be picked up, with Lallana, Jack Cork, Nathaniel Clyne, Luke Shaw and bright young prospect Rickie Lambert all besieged by would-be buyers.

If you read what I said, I used the word 'IDEAL'. The IDEAL would be an amalgamation.
We do not live in an Ideal world, and although the theory may be ideal, the mix of fans would not. Both would rather dream of being Champions of the Premier League and Champions of Europe, rather than allow something to happen that could possibly make that dream come true.

For the record I actually prefer the championship myself as its much easier to get tickets and most away games are cheaper but I would not want to see us back there as its important for the club to be playing in the best league in the world especially with the money coming in to it next season
Would we be called Southmouth.

I fully understand that you, and thousands of other Southampton and Portsmouth supporters would not support such a move, and it is most unlikely that it would happen.

I also prefer the championship.

Having just watched Celtic qualify for the Champions League knock out phase, I am reminded of the pig ignorant comments on here in the summer about Celtic. Lunatic stuff such as Hooper coming to a bigger club at Saints etc.
I look forward to the day when we can attract 60,000 in the Champions League.
The laws of averages denote they had to qualify to the last 16 after so many years of trying.
Well played by them nonetheless.

Sistermum wrote:So you were presumably disappointed that we were promoted last year. How curious. And you've come up with the expression 'shooting above our weight' - there are no weight divisions in shooting, light people can shoot as well as heavy people. You've obviously heard a phrase and thought it sounded good but regrettably got it wrong.
Deduce what you will, by your own means.I don't expect any of the goofy idiots on here that continually slate others to share my opinion. However, others will, but won't admit it. I simply do not like the fact we are shooting (or not) above our weight and would be much more comfortable going down a division only to come back stronger. I just hope we can and the delusions will then stop.Let's be realistic!
Do you not think that if we went down two divisions we'd do really well again in League 1?
The Premiership is a learning curve (not unlike a shooting curve in your world) and we are getting there slowly. 17th this year is fine and, as someone said yesterday, mid-table anonymity after that. If you are more comfortable in the Championship, support a Championship club.
Disillusioned or otherwise!

Come on Tranmere.
I fully understand that you, and thousands of other Southampton and Portsmouth supporters would not support such a move, and it is most unlikely that it would happen.

Maybe it will be like remembering the history of your club - like the Old Carthusians.
I think Pompey will just move their ground up the hill.
Sadly, no local hills in your town.

Later, when back at home after watching the mighty Saints crush another team, Mrs Skate is approached by her neighbour.
"Didn't you used to be a PFC fan?" Mrs Fisheye enquires
"I know" replies Mrs Skate somewhat embarrased. " It started with the kids really" she said " We just took them for a day out, but the football was so good we became hooked, we've never seen footie like it"
"Maybe I should give it a go" said Mrs Fisheye
"Well we saw your husband there last week" replied Mrs Skate laughingly.
Suddenly little Ricky runs up and says "Mum, what do OKI and Jobsite mean"
"Why do you ask little Lambo?"
"In the toilets at SMS today they had run out of toilet paper and had old football shirts with Portsmouth FC on them to wipe your botty with, did we have a football team here then?"
"Yes but they were sh1te and died" Mrs Skate snapped

Mrs Fisheye enquires "I know" replies Mrs Skate somewhat embarrased. " It started with the kids really" she said " We just took them for a day out, but the football was so good we became hooked, we've never seen footie like it" "Maybe I should give it a go" said Mrs Fisheye "Well we saw your husband there last week" replied Mrs Skate laughingly. Suddenly little Ricky runs up and says "Mum, what do OKI and Jobsite mean" "Why do you ask little Lambo?" "In the toilets at SMS today they had run out of toilet paper and had old football shirts with Portsmouth FC on them to wipe your botty with, did we have a football team here then?" "Yes but they were sh1te and died" Mrs Skate snapped " But I am from Portsmouth, so should I be Pompey, Should I be Saints?" Here's what she said to Rickie..... If JR is worth £7m and Ramirez £12m then on footballing ability and contribution to Saints' performance, week in and week out, Adam must be worth £25m!
That would make Adam's value three and a half times JR's and twice Ramirez's.
The flaw in this argument of course is basing respective values on the grossly inflated fees Cortese paid for these two, at best, average performers.
Good old Alan is having a joke, he knows, as well as anyone, that Adam is worth £10m at least, makng JR's worth roughly £3m and Ramirez's £5m ---- £8M for the two!!
Can it be that our illustrious Chairman has been taken to the cleaners to the tune of £11m?? --- surely not!! --- the see no:hear no:speak no, Happy Clappers could never conceive their hero has made such a gross error!
Judging by these two players contribution on the pitch so far, I can't see many fair minded people who really know the game, disagreeing with my wise, experienced and brilliantly calculated, assessment.

You can't even talk about AL's value without turning it into an attack on your fixation, Nicola Cortese.
I'm not suggesting you should be committed - as you suggested I was doing the other day - just that you should see your GP and get them to refer you to someone about this.
I'm deadly serious; this is clearly a problem. Please do go and deal with it.

We do not live in an Ideal world, and although the theory may be ideal, the mix of fans would not. Both would rather dream of being Champions of the Premier League and Champions of Europe, rather than allow something to happen that could possibly make that dream come true.

I also remember that, when Saints were away, Pompey were at home, and many fans went to The Dell one week and Fratton Park the next.
It was in the days when away fans were not separated from home fans, and they got to know each other and compared opinions on clubs, teams and players.
The football authorities, in their wisdom (or lack of) decided that, after crowd trouble at, I believe, Leeds, there should be segregation.
This, in my opinion, did not solve the problem, but made it worse. Instead of mingling with away supporters, they were separated, and that is when the chanting began, because the 'enemy' were all in one section.
I did use the term, 'In an IDEAL world', but these days football is far from being an ideal world, and we have the Football Authorities to thank for their contribution to this state of affairs.

Come on Tranmere.
I fully understand that you, and thousands of other Southampton and Portsmouth supporters would not support such a move, and it is most unlikely that it would happen.

But you are a reader. A lot of people these days don't read. As I say, just interested in how much interest there would be.
BTW - the petitions - don't know about them, but at the main demo meeting - around 100 people turned up - that was it.
I did say your battle there is biger than ours for our footy club.

Fair play for signing it, but seriously 600ish, and you sometimes get 50 times that number for a footy home game. So many people have just got their eye off the ball here - if you excuse my pun.
Politicians for the main part, are just puppets. I bet 75pc of them don't really understand how it really works at the very top level. Sad but true.
Thank for the invite, but I am going to a take-over party that day. An old friend is finally coming home. PUP

If I perceive trouble, I walk away from it, not because I am a coward, it's because of the possible consequences, I am not going to get banged up just because I had to defend myself, better to avoid it altogether, that way I get to follow my team without any real grief. If you want to go the other way, that is your choice, but don't expect sympathy if it all goes horribly wrong, you reap what you sew.

Rioting? No!
Just a couple of incidents produced crowd segregation, and instead of improving the situation, things have steadily got worse.
Before segregation, if there was fighting, it was usually between themselves, and not involving opposing fans. It usually started in the local pub, and continued on the terraces.
With segregation, as I have said, the opposition is easily identified, and away fans are usually let out after the home fans, giving the home fans time to prepare an ambush.
