SAINTS fans have laughed off tabloid rumours claiming Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is lining up a £5m bid for Adam Lallana.

Lallana, 23, only put pen to paper on a new four-year contract last year and has been one of Saints’ stand-out performers so far in their first season back in the top flight, writes SIMON WALTER.

Newcastle boss Pardew, pictured below, who left St Mary’s in 2010, has long been an admirer of Lallana and is supposedly lining up a bid in the January transfer window.

Hundreds of Saints fans took to an online poll at dailyecho.co.uk to give their views, the consensus being it would take far more than £5m to prise Lallana away from St Mary’s – even if the club is willing to sell.

Most do not believe Saints would sell Lallana at any price (54 per cent) and another 33 per cent reckon he would not want to go anyway.

Only 14 per cent reckon Saints would sell Lallana for the right price but less than a third of them (4 per cent) believe £5m would be good money for the club’s captain and playmaker.

“£5m is nowhere near enough for one of the most talented midfield players in the Premier League. Slap a £20m price tag on him and tell Pardew to do one and stop dreaming,” said seventh-junction.

Bwana23 joked: “At that price he must be deluded!!! 15 million nearer his value now!!”

OspreySaint added: “Why would a young bloke who has just had his first kid want to go through the massive upheaval of moving to the other end of the country to join a club that is little better than the one he is currently captaining? It won’t be for the money and there is little chance of bettering his lot there.”
