Fonte: Saints can handle Reading pressure

Jose Fonte Jose Fonte

Jose Fonte insists Saints can handle the pressure of this afternoon’s crunch clash with Reading.

Both teams won automatic promotion from the Championship last season but find themselves in the Premier League’s bottom three going into the game at St Mary’s.

It’s a huge match for both clubs but Portuguese centre half Fonte, left, is in upbeat mood.

“It is a massive game for both of us. We are aware of the pressure.

“It is going to be an energetic game, tough for both of us, but we look forward to it.

“We have been preparing ourselves very well this week and we have our game plan and we will try and win the game on Saturday.

“It is a lot of pressure [in these kind of games]. You have to try and stay calm and know your game plan well, know your job.

“You know what you have to do and as a team, work hard to get the better of them. It is as simple as that.”

Sometimes the quality of football can be sacrificed in such high-pressured matches, but that is not something Fonte expects from Saints.

“The attitude has to be 100 percent but our philosophy is to play attractive football, to play a passing game,” he said.

“That’s what we've been doing for the last three years. We have to do continue that. That’s what we train every week to do.

These couple of weeks will tell us what we need to do in 2013! Reading will give us a good game and it wil not be a roll over for us.
If we do not win the next two games then it will be a hard job to get us out of the bottom 3 if we can get the results and and other go are way we could be some 5 points clear of the bottom 3 so come lets get behind the team and manager today and sing our hearts out COYR's 3:1 to saints

It's a defining few games. Fellow strugglers Reading and Sunderland at home followed by Fulham away who we played off the park at home without taking the points.

We are a young and exciting side but for all that we need the points on the board. I think DWD is a minimum. More than that will see us rising out of it. Less than that is likely to end in relegation.

Today is massive but is more of a mustn't lose game. Sunderland is the must win game.

I have a feeling that these two sides will cancel each other out, cannot imagine us featuring in a nil - nil but it is going to happen one day! I just hope our crowd are up for it, never was a twelth man needed than in these next tw critical games. Perhaps Steve De Ridder could be our secret weapon on the bench, his 80th minute equalising goal last season was vital.

Southampton are the better side and with the home advantage should win at least 3-0 today, as long as we can stop their 'supersub' Adam Le Fondre from creating counter attacks.

We will win today and then will beat Sunderland and move out of the relegation zone, and once confidence rises then we shall win more.

Morning Ian,

Quite a revealing day yesterday. Lots of things came out, which should be aired on ths forum. Who knows, it could help bring the two clubs closer together.

Here is some background information. The whale refers to a made up story by Seed and Strazzie earlier in the day.

Now, Seed sometimes talks to a few of the posters who will talk to him on the news site about fishing. I honestly think the Whale story actually goes back to a little lake in East Hampshire when he was set upon by his life nemesis (see below).

Now, I have background information on Seed’s upbringing. Did you know that Seed has a twin brother? Now Seed’s twin brother and him both had disturbed childhoods, but were separated early in life, but had some communication for a few years.

Seed’s brother dealt with his by getting away from his day job, and following his nearest footy team, and dressing up in mad apparel, getting drunk and becoming somewhat famous or infamous. His day job is looking after books. Guess who?

Seed, being a bit more driven and secretive (a typical behavioural trait for his upbringing), put all his energy into his little businesses to forgey his bad start, and as he has got older started getting into footy and then started getting into footy websites.

He found his inner calling, somewhere he could be secretive by having multi-logons, and could then try to dominate others as Johnny had done to him when he was younger.

The ultimate inner payback to Johnny was when he and a couple of his willing accomplices would sit on the Pompey News site, and he could again adopt more multi-personalities whilst retaining the nicer Seed persona – see Bagman, and Bizman for instance.

He is now in the process of ultimate control by luring more now willing accomplices to his new chosen control room (the Joshua Tree pub), and poisoning them ala The Stepford Wives.

To all genuine independent fans here. We may be Blues fans, but we are really concerned about you. Please start fighting this regime.

My message to Seed is to go and make it up with Johnny, and move on with his life. They might find in each other their ultimate soul mate.

SOUTHAMPTON bottom of premier
bottom of tourism
just bottom of every thing !

More people go to Portsmouth
than the new forest !
Around 725,000 overnight trips were made to Portsmouth in 2004 with 87% by UK residents and 13% by overseas residents. It is estimated that around 6.8 million tourism day trips were made to Portsmouth in 2004. Around 3.8 million day trips involved visits to attractions and the beach. The remaining 3 million day trips involved visits to Gunwharf Quays for speciality shopping and general days out.

It is estimated that 615,000 overnight trips are made to Southampton each year. Based on 2002 data it is estimated that approximately 2.82 million day trips from home go to the city.

Surveys in Chichester in 2003 identified 3 million day visits from home and 327,000 overnight visits.

The New Forest Visitor Survey 1998 identified there were 4.7 million day trips of which 564,000 (12%) were to the coast. There were 636,000 overnight trips.

Any way back to football now

We will create plenty of chances against them today - we just need to get them in. It's easy to think the pressure applies only to us but they are worse off.

I'm just a humanitarian really Ian. Just trying to help others.

I think Poppy ie Puppy may be Seed Junior. We need to work on him really soon. SW No4

I also think Dona is considering his association, perhaps not in cyber space, but certainly down the pub.

Therefore, step up SW No 5 - Kennethia, or Kendra. Certainly on the outside but definitely one who can be helped.

On Agnetha, or Agnus as Dom called her (it does make more sense). Is she a stand-alone? I do know that she is also Stroppy Gramps, and almost certainly a well known poster on the News (we'll keep it quiet for a bit longer though).

There are a few wannabe wives - ie like Strassie. We don't need to worry about her though as she can't get poisoned down the pub.

Good point made. But in recent weeks our defence has tightened up albeit lapses by a novice keeper. Today it will be about nerves and If the QPR game is anything to go by they were like rabbits in headlights. My message to Seed is to go and make it up with Johnny, and move on with his life. They might find in each other their ultimate soul mate.
Good morning MG! So Johnny is responsible for home being a control freak! You are good at this investigating caper. I wonder what the story is with the other jealous and demented Stepford wives. It never gets old. Lots more mileage left it in this gem!
I'm just a humanitarian really Ian. Just trying to help others. I think Poppy ie Puppy may be Seed Junior. We need to work on him really soon. SW No4 I also think Dona is considering his association, perhaps not in cyber space, but certainly down the pub. So guess, we are looking at an inner and an outer Stepford Five! When being attacked by a clone, it's actually Count Dooku who is behind it, but when its a wife - its just Dr Know (from AI). As you say, Its gonna run and run this one, a bit like the Saville case really. PUP HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Cost Baz, You are a gem
