Timely break for Saints' battered stars
A two-week break has come at the right time for Saints after skipper Adam Lallana left St Mary’s on crutches after the win over Reading.
The influential midfielder also had his knee in a brace, after hurting it when Royals midfielder Jay Tabb accidentally fell into him in the first half.
Lallana, who was in clear discomfort, was eventually able to limp off the pitch, but had to be substituted.
Manager Nigel Adkins said the club planned to assess the injury at training yesterday, as well as this morning.
“He’s got a knee injury and we put it in a brace as we always do, immobilised the joint, put him on crutches, let it settle down and assess it in the next 24 or 48 hours,” said Adkins.
Centre half Maya Yoshida, who appeared to jar a knee during the second half, was also reported to have left the stadium on crutches.
The Japan international did, however, finish the full 90 minutes despite any problem.
Saints will hope that the extra recovery time before their next game will allow both players to heal.
The club are not in action until Saturday, December 22, when they host fellow strugglers Sunderland.
Saints had been due to visit Chelsea next weekend, but that fixture is being rescheduled as the European champions have Club World Cup duties to conduct.
Adkins revealed after Saturday’s match that goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga should return to training before the visit of Sunderland, after being ruled out against Reading by a shoulder injury.

There posters who have stated that they think we boobed by spending £12m on one player when we could have got 4 for the same money.
Wrong!
They would have been no better than the list above and would not have improved the first choice 11. If we could sell some of the fringe and get a proper improvement centreback, then lets go for it, but he will need to shift Jose who is improving weekly with Yoshi beside him.
Anyone know of a player that fits that description that is available for a sensible realistic fee?

We have a young team that are improving the more they play together, However i would not say no to A solid CB and a experienced GK. I would also not say no to another big signing to take Guly off of our bench!
We do need to keep to the same transfer policy though. ON THE BUS!

This is as good as we have had it since Strachan was in charge the team are playing well and winning massive games. Stayed away from this site for a while,I got bored with the "our club is better than yours " brigade. I cant see the point in it to be honest,they are toast and they know it. Sixteen years ago, my mate told me about "a nice stadium in Portsmouth called Fratton Park".
To this day I have searched every single corner of Portsmouth and have still only found one stadium called Fratton Park!
Two jews go to the pompey ticket office and ask for season tickets. The woman asks, "are you circumcised" the jews reply, "of course" the woman says, "im sorry, you have to be a complete knob to be a pompey fan!"
A Pompey fan was walking down the street so I gave him a triangle, well it was the only way he'd find out what it was like to have 3 points!!! :D
I'm wondering if I actually need to make jokes about Pompey since they're laughable enough without my input at the moment!
