Nigel Adkins hailed Saints’ “great resolve” to bounce back from defeat against Sunderland by rescuing a late point at Fulham.

Saints deserved something from their Boxing Day trip to Craven Cottage but looked set to leave empty handed until Rickie Lambert cancelled out Dimitar Berbatov’s opener from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining.

With the club sat just above the relegation zone it was a sure signal they are not about to buckle with a tricky run of games coming up.

“It’s important, especially winning your homes against those around you,” said Adkins.

“That’s why we were disappointed not to get anything from the Sunderland game just before Christmas.

“To come away and show the great resolve that we have was very positive.

“It’s important that there is a positivity about everything we do, there’s a desire to do well and everyone’s working well for the same cause.”
