Lambert: Saints can end Stoke home run
6:10am Friday 28th December 2012 in Saints News
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
Rickie Lambert takes on Fulham
Rickie Lambert is confident that Saints can end Stoke’s remarkable unbeaten home run when they visit the Britannia Stadium tomorrow.
Tony Pulis’ side have not lost a Premier League match on their own turf since February, and have conceded just four goals in their nine games there this season.
That defensive record is the best in English professional football, and one of the most impressive in Europe.
No side across the top divisions in countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Holland can even match it.
In Britain, Scottish duo Rangers and Queen of the South are the only teams who boast a better record.
With that in mind, Lambert insists Saints are under no illusions about how difficult it will be to win at Stoke, but he believes the confidence gained from the 1-1 Boxing Day draw at Fulham can spur them on to a result.

Funny what football can do to a community, our litlle Painted Wagon crew went to Stoke in 1984 the old Victoria ground....they had no support, no volume, we were in there end!
Yet they fill the ground every week and it is one hell of a noisy place...
At the risk of incurring the wrath of my fellow Saints think on this...
...back in the late 70's and 80's until seating destroyed our capacity at the Dell our mean average gates were far bigger than the Stokes, Norwiches, Leicester's, and so on..indeed other that their big games Newcastle, Chelsea, Villa, Everton were not much bigger than us, in short only our limited capacity kept our overall average down....
Today I see clubs like Norwich and Stoke filling their ground to capacity every week with double their 70's and 80's numbers.....Lowe built the new ground too small BUT I still feel that in spite of everything and with the massive growth in attendances throughout ALL leagues we are of the pace.....opinions please.

We wouldn't get 40 every week, perhaps, but with more aggressive pricing we would get close. And we would pack it out for bigger games.
For this weekend I predict a hard fought, bloodied draw. It will be too much for gazza, so I agree with sticking with kelv for this one. He know how to handle getting roughed up.

I think 48,000 each week will be enough for the following 5 years or so.
When we are playing Champions League football regularly I feel it will be time to move to a band new 60,000 stadium that will be the football mecca of the South Coast and we will continue to attract fans from catchment areas across the South and further afield.
St Marys could be sold to Eastleigh and Totton to ground share who by then will be in the same league as the skunts and get home gates of 20,000 plus in League 2 when Saints are playing away.
I got a crystal ball for Christmas and that's what I'm seeing.....:o)

I bought a business in Newcastle a few weeks back. Do you know the population is less than Southampton? Ok add in Gateshead and its bigger. You never meet anyone from Newcastle who supports another team, some might not go to the games but they all support the Toons. I bought a business in Portsmouth last year, only 3 of their staff supported the skates.

We are not good enough at times to keep possession, so other tactics should be used.
I don't want to see us keep passing the ball around at the back, we put ourselves under enough pressure against teams that don't press.

It was meant as a tongue in cheek comment and could yet be possible as none of us can really see into the future.
I haven't really got a crystal ball and
I don't recall aiming my post directly to you so I don't really appreciate your insults or see why what I Say actually concerns you.
The fact that you are obviously not a Saints makes me wonder why you feel the need to reply to my post in the way you have as it has fcuk all to do with you what I think and what Saints are doing or where they will hopefully be in a few years time.
On that note I would suggest you keep your comments to yourself as you are obviously limited in intelligence and basically full of sh1t.
So jog on and comment on your own clubs site whoever that may be and try to be a bit more polite.

Obviously what with all the tourism, there could be a few visitors, but we have "quality" yobs in Pompey that may decide to make a visual and structural impact on your premises thereby eating into your potential profits, I would suggest Fareham instead as your first point of encroachment.

In two seasons you will be an established top 8 premier league side?
in two years time you will be lucky to be in the premier league..
on what evidence?
So in 4 years time you will be in the top 6, have won an couple of trophies and attracting 48k, and then up to 60k.....
strange people here today....you need to be realistic.....
I went for the scrambled eggs on toast in the end.

What im saying is your deluded observation about your club is hilarious...
you are living in dream world and i would assume a FIFA player?

I bought a business in Newcastle a few weeks back. Do you know the population is less than Southampton? Ok add in Gateshead and its bigger. You never meet anyone from Newcastle who supports another team, some might not go to the games but they all support the Toons. I bought a business in Portsmouth last year, only 3 of their staff supported the skates.
Still thats their more recent history and we do not discuss that.

Obviously what with all the tourism, there could be a few visitors, but we have "quality" yobs in Pompey that may decide to make a visual and structural impact on your premises thereby eating into your potential profits, I would suggest Fareham instead as your first point of encroachment.
Profits will be tight as we know that people in that area like to say they will buy something and then don't but as success grows so will profits and hopefully bring some much needed tourism and business to a run down area. Fareham being bigger would be the next target!
We like to look after our neighbours!! HAHA

KD is not working out at this level, and Gazza is still inexperienced and both have and will cost us more points.
The current back 4 have worked super hard in recent weeks and to have all that progress ruined by a too many GK blunders is a surefire way to stay in the bottom 4.
I think it has to be Gazza tomorrow, time IS up for KD.

NA has to decide pretty **** fast on who will be his number one keeper.
