SOLDIERS in the 21 Royal Engineers, from Ripon's Claro Barracks, have completed a 50-hour training session at their Camp Bastion base in Afghanistan to pay tribute to medic Corporal Channing Day, who was killed in a firefight in October. The ten soldiers completed the Insanity Challenge yesterday (Tuesday, January 1), raising funds for Combat Stress and other charities.
CELLS FULL: North Yorkshire Police’s acting chief constable has condemned New Year revellers for their behaviour after it emerged every cell in the county was full following numerous arrests overnight on Monday. Tim Madgwick said: “It is such a shame people cannot enjoy New Year’s Eve without behaving so badly.”
HOMELESS ACTION: The Archbishop of York is set to launch a campaign to reduce the number of people sleeping rough in York. Dr John Sentamu is hoping the multi-agency scheme No Second Night Out cuts the rising number of people sleeping rough nationally and in the city.
