TWO Barry men proved themselves to be big fish in the angling world - with some impressive Christmas catches!
23-year-old Daniel Crump, who fishes for the 'Barry Lead Heads', was at Nells Point, Barry, when he landed a 22lb 8oz cod.
His usual set-up for fishing this mark is Century SS coupled to a Penn 525, and he is renowned for big fish - having only last week taken a brace of conger eels with the best topping 21lb from the Green Light in Barry! The greedy cod fell to half a mackerel fished Pennell Pulley style on 6/0 WSBs.
Mike Dixon, of the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers, said: "Dan likes to use rotten bottom rigs as the ground is very snaggy. The fish stayed deep, giving the usual head shakes, before being landed by good buddy Gareth Griffiths.
"The sea was raging but thankfully didn't cause any major problems."
In the same session Gareth, also from Barry, caught a bass weighing 7lb 6oz, which was returned alive and kicking.
