Chelsea trip provisionally rearranged

First published in Saints News

Saints will travel to Chelsea on Wednesday, January 16 - either for a rearranged Premier League match or an FA Cup replay.

The clubs were scheduled to meet in a league encounter at Stamford Bridge last month, but the fixture had to be postponed because of the Blues' Club World Cup commitments.

The match has now been provisionally rearranged for January 16. However, should the clubs draw in their FA Cup third round tie at St Mary's tomorrow, the contest will instead become a cup replay and a new date will have to be found for the league match.

Why not just combine tomorrow's match into both a league and cup game, with the result standing for both competitions?

I know it sort of hands us home advantage for a league game that was due to be played at their place, but that's the penalty they should pay for their cowardice in running off to the Far East to get out of playing us.

Why not play a double header like they do locally at the end of a season?

Remember beating Chelsea 3-0 at the bridge same time of year in a replay in the third round in January 1977..

Had Mufco next round we had a last minute penalty turned down because about 10.000 United fans had forced themselves into the ground ..

Some sat even around the pitch would have caused a riot..they beat us 2-1 in the replay and won the cup..

ridiculous will only give fans a maximum of 9 days to get their tickets and theres all sorts of criteria to meet too! they must have known that they wanted to play on this date and should have scheduled it earlier!

Hope we don't have a replay. Arguably a good time to play them in the league at theirs because the fans are quick to get on their backs. Ideally they'll thrash our reserves in the cup and think they can just turn up for the league game.

Could be wrong, but Saints aren't the best team for Chelsea to be playing at home at the moment - fans are sure to see it as a formality but we do have the players to hurt them if they underestimate us.

Not ideal, but we have to play them at some point. May be best to get it done and out the way?

Hopefully hear the chant (to 'my old mans a dustman')
Joooooooohhhhn Terry is a racist,
He wears a racist hat.
His Dad will sell you cocaine,
And his mum will rob your flat.
