Yep, having said that in my last post that is one potential solution. Like Shaw and Cork joining the midfield a few months ago, that may actually make a positive difference, although Fonte has been excellent of late.

Saints have not the medical resources of some clubs and in some cases they may genuinely not know the timeframes etc etc .... Some injuries respond better to treatment and in a more predictable way to others. However its very sensible to keep extremely quiet about injuries when we are currently in the market for players....

Firstly it is not desperate and in any event I cant think of many ? You can use this approach in the Championship but not at this level.

Adkins and Cortese will want players of high quality and are prepared to invest big ot get them it seems. We do not want temporary journeymen. Adkins is building a strong team, we are getting it together, we do not want a squad full of short term purchases.

You ask why we haven't signed any adequate replacements.

Possibly it's not just a matter of deciding to buy a player and him turning up the next morning.

The guys selling have an incentive to leave it late - get as many offers as possible to choose the best one. Why would they suddenly release someone.

Lets be fair mate the whole defence looked over the place first ten games but he was one of our star men last year and deserves his chance to prove he can do a job even if it's until a new signing comes , thought he was solid at Stoke but has been short of game time , it's what he does on pitch not off it and I know that he is popular with the team and is a hard worker on the training ground

I think Palace sent Martin back, they certainly weren't playing him.

Villa is massive but I think we can still do them and cover for our injuries. We need new defenders in for the rest of the fixtures though.

I agree but taking the Sturridge deal as an example, other clubs seem to be getting everything arranged before the window opens. The fee was arranged, Sturridge had the medical and agreed personal terms before the window had opened and it was released to the media, so it was just a case of signing the dotted lines. I agree with hatestheskates in that lessons should be learned

It does appear that the club is being run efficiently and i'm grateful for that but I am frustrated over signings. I recall myself and thomo' expressing this last year and think we are paying the price for not getting signings in.
Last year just 2, Lee and sharpe, who don't feature any more. Summer window I feel some signings left too late. I appreciate the difficulty but can't help think we can improve in this area, is Adkins not certain of which players he wants I wonder?

It does appear that the club is being run efficiently and i'm grateful for that but I am frustrated over signings. I recall myself and thomo' expressing this last year and think we are paying the price for not getting signings in.
Last year just 2, Lee and sharpe, who don't feature any more. Summer window I feel some signings left too late. I appreciate the difficulty but can't help think we can improve in this area, is Adkins not certain of which players he wants I wonder?

I think NA doesn't make the decisions anymore regarding signings in the prem league I believe cortèse rules the roost and NA is just the coach now which is why we are always linked with foreign players from Italy and Spain and not the prem or champs I hope I am wrong but NC is an odd fellow so wouldn't surprise me

If he couldn't get in the Palarse side we are not likely to chuck him into this massive game! It will be Hoover and Yosh with Martin on the bench.

Totally agree, should of had the players in by now. With Aaron Martin being recalled from Crystal Palace means no one is coming imo. Villa game is a massive game.

I think Palace sent Martin back, they certainly weren't playing him.

Villa is massive but I think we can still do them and cover for our injuries. We need new defenders in for the rest of the fixtures though.

You ask why we haven't signed any adequate replacements.

Possibly it's not just a matter of deciding to buy a player and him turning up the next morning.

The guys selling have an incentive to leave it late - get as many offers as possible to choose the best one. Why would they suddenly release someone.

Just my take on it.

I agree but taking the Sturridge deal as an example, other clubs seem to be getting everything arranged before the window opens. The fee was arranged, Sturridge had the medical and agreed personal terms before the window had opened and it was released to the media, so it was just a case of signing the dotted lines. I agree with hatestheskates in that lessons should be learned

i have just had a thought, maybe your right because if its true that NC did recal martin with out telling NA then that to me says he isnt really interested in signing astori he could of leaked certain stories to the press to keep us-the saints fans-happy knowing in his heart of hearts if astori had a choice between us n liverpool it hurts me to say this but he would probably choose liverpool and its a cowards way of baulking at transfers while being seen as actively trying to appear to be serious in making signings. i said a few months back if NA is being undermined by NC then for his reputation and his own pride he should walk and if he isnt he should man up and stand up to him after all he is the manager, NC does seem to be a dictator

Yep, having said that in my last post that is one potential solution. Like Shaw and Cork joining the midfield a few months ago, that may actually make a positive difference, although Fonte has been excellent of late.

Bit worried that there is very little news on Clyne though - they kept very quiet about Lallana and that proved a bad sign.

They weren't half as quiet about Ramirez and he came back quickly.

Saints have not the medical resources of some clubs and in some cases they may genuinely not know the timeframes etc etc .... Some injuries respond better to treatment and in a more predictable way to others. However its very sensible to keep extremely quiet about injuries when we are currently in the market for players....

MGRA, Not sure how you can say Saints have not got some of the best medical staff and equipment in the League, it's one of the things that our back room staff have a fantastic reputation for.

We've had 14 points from our last ten games so it's clearly possible. However...

The grind through January with so many key players out is going to be vital. With that and the fact that we have eleven away games and nine at home, I'm left totally uncertain.

As ever, I'm drawn back to the betting markets - not the bookies, the exchanges. They do appear from academic studies to be very accurate in assessing the true odds of a situation. And at the moment, they have us as having a 43% chance of relegation. (For comparison, Reading 83%, QPR 64%, Villa 35% and Wigan 33%)

So, I'l follow the money and say we have a 57% chance of making it.

Use it to your advantage.

Put £758 on Saints to be relegated. If we stay up, you've lost £758 but you don't care as you're so happy that we're still up.

Go down and you have £1,000 to cheer you up, enough to buy a football team of your own - or at least part of one. Maybe.
