A man who should have been in the crane when it was hit by the helicopter which crashed in central London yesterday was late for work because his young son had slept in.
Nicki Biagioni, from Ongar, was in a lift to the crane in Vauxhall when the helicopter struck and plunged 700 ft to the ground, killing pilot Peter Barnes and pedestrian Matthew Wood.
His wife Leanna told The Sun: "Nicki was at the site minutes before it happened. He gets a lift to a certain level and then climbs a ladder the rest of the way.
"If he'd been climbing he would have died from the fall for certain. It's too horrible to think about."
