SIR – I see that the Zoological Society has been making a survey of marine life in the Thames and other rivers in the UK.

Apparently, more than 100 marine animals have been sighted in the Thames, including dolphins, porpoises and seals.

This would seem to put into insignificance the odd seal or two seen in the Severn and, as it is a protected species, those fishermen who understandably may be worried about their stocks should be very cautious before taking the law into their own hands.

The Zoological Society is interested in any sightings of marine life so I suggest any interested people get in touch with them or at least leave the matter to the Environment Agency.
