If he's not ready, he's not ready and I applaud any manager who deals with that kind of problem professionally.

Why did we buy Vegard Forren if he,s not fit to play? Surely we should have bought another centre half who could go straight into the team.
When all the other teams at the bottom of the premier league have brought in new players why havnt we?

With the Tv money going up so much next season surely we cant afford to go down.

Starting line up today sees one change from the line up against Manchester United - Shaw in for Fox. Bench yet to be announced.

I think this is a valid good point. I'd said some time ago there was no money but I was proved wrong by Forren's signing. I do have to wonder just how much money there is though. One would have thought that we would have had high impact signings who would have come straight into the team. I'm putting my faith however in NC and MP accepting that they both know what they are doing. This afternoon will tell. I'm being positive and hopeful and predict a 4 1 win to Southampton!!!!!

All the other teams have bought players, but have they REALLY strengthened their sides? We are by far good enough to stay up with the team we have and could realistically finish in the 2nd 3rd of the table based on the results we're capable of getting, and in my opinion the change in management has strengthened the team more than any player could have.

I'd prefer us to buy the right player rather than worrying about if he was fit for the first handful of games after he'd joined.

Perhaps people in the management team have a longer timescale in mind than you and aren't prone to panic.

Hooiveld has stepped up his game since the twitchy start to the season. He and Yoshi are looking OK.

And I am OK with MP making sure that new players are "Saints fit". It is reassuring that he seems to be keeping much of what was good about the Adkins period rather than feeling that it is important to change things by default in order to make his stamp. That shows self confidence.

The manager is correct in doing this, he will obviously be our number 1 center back. Its just a waiting process he needs time to adapt and get match fit. The back two aren't playing bad at the moment so why rush him in?. I think it's a good idea and shouldn't be too long until hes playing, could be today.

He is being integrated in the squad, and will have to earn his place in the team based on how is preforms in training. Think a bit further than your nose! Whatever time we had bought him we'd have had a problem. If we'd bought him in the summer, then he'd have already played a lot of games and could be burnt out by the start of the season. It might have been that there was noone good enough available that would suit our style or was cost effective. If you look at the teams around us buying, they've mostly bought rubbish.
Norwich - lee camp and becchio.
West Ham - unknown brazilian
Aston Villa - french 2nd division player.
Reding - An unfit CB and a striker from Sheff Utd
Wigan - untried Prem players.
QPR - some good players, but you have to question why they're there, for the challenge or the money?
I think we've got a good enough squad already that can stay up, then invest in the summer.

He was bought to play. But needs to reach the fitness level required to play in the PL. Maybe no one else was available, that the scouts thought would fit into the team. Always trust that NC and MP will know more about creating a good team than YOU will...

Why should players go straight into the team? Would you not want him to learn how we play? Learn instructions and signals? Get fit enough to play? Get used to playing with our other defenders?

Even if he was fully fit, would he get in the team over Hooiveld and Yoshida? Who are both playing well. Would you disrupt a comfortable defence just for the sake of putting a player, who may or may not be technically better in? Just because we've bought a player doesn't mean we should play him straight away.

yes upton is allowed to an opinion and is allowed to post it on here but can you point out any "gratutuious abuse" from either saintysaintsaint or Velleity? i cant see any. all they are doing is pointing out to upton that all he ever does is moan, and it does seem to be that he loves a moan, nothing wrong with that though. however to claim that it is a joke that VF cant even make the bench and that he should because he cost £3.5mill (which is not a lot of money in the prem) without knowledge of the players fitness or matchfitness or his knowledge of the team and positional play is taking things too far. the 1 person who has all the data on all the players is MP. if upton had said "why isnt VF even on the bench, i would have put him there he has cost the club a bit of money and i would like to see him take part in a match" would have been better no? however its not my job to put words into his mouth and as you have said he can post what he likes, but if you post in a certain `negative` way you will get people sicking up for the club they support!
