Superfast internet confusion

3:00pm Friday 8th March 2013

BT has reassured residents over concerns that superfast broadband was being delayed for another year in the town centre.

Eagle-eyed Gazette reader Paul Mason, from Queens Drive, was shocked when he logged onto the BT’s line checker website and saw that a target date for two cabinets in Abbey Road to “go live” with the fibre service had been put back to March 31, 2014.

The cabinets were expected to be upgraded in the coming weeks as part of BT’s already delayed superfast broadband rolloutin Malvern.

BT spokesman Emma Tennant confirmed work on the cabinets was progressing and that they should be up-and running within months.

She said: “The line checker is a guide and is updated regularly. However the work on some cabinets is more complicated than on others.

“Therefore, where a specific date is not yet known,a longer lead time may be given.”
