Politicians have paid moving tributes to Margaret Thatcher.

Baroness Thatcher, Britain's first and only female Prime Minister, died on Monday morning, aged 87, after suffering a stroke.

During her tenure, Mrs Thatcher made a number of visits to the Braintree district, including the official opening of Crittall Windows then new headquarters in Braintree in August 1990.

Halstead MP Brooks Newmark has led tributes to her.

He said: “She was a huge influence on a whole generation of politicians, including myself."

Braintree councillor Lady Patricia Newton, whose late husband, former Braintree MP Lord Tony Newton, was one of Mrs Thatcher’s cabinet members, also paid tribute.
