THERE’S nothing like a duchess for bringing out a rush of volunteers... On Sunday the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in sunshine and a designer coat, looking incredibly glamorous and smiley for the National Review of Queen’s Scouts at Windsor Castle.

Last month she was in wellies and waterproofs in freezing conditions, lighting campfires and cooking bread sticks with cub scouts up in the Lake District in a snowstorm.

What’s more, she managed to smile through it all as though it were the absolutely most wonderful way of spending a biting cold day.

Definitely not just a fair-weather figurehead.

No wonder the number of volunteers to help with Scouts has shot up since the Duchess joined in to help a Cub pack near her Anglesey home. Nearly 3,000 new people have volunteered to help this year – the highest number since 1986. But still not enough. Around 40,000 youngsters are waiting to join, but they can’t until there are more volunteers.

If you’ve ever thought about it, now could be a good time. After all, it’s probably your best ever chance to meet a duchess round a campfire.
