Carers who have been sharing their experience to help shape Dorset’s carers’ strategy came together to look at priorities for the next three years and find out about national and local developments at a recent conference.

The draft strategy, developed by Dorset County Council and NHS Dorset, sets out priorities for services and developments in Dorset and builds on changes in health and social care nationally and locally.

It highlights support and training available and has a strong focus on improved advice and information for carers. Other points include supporting people to identify themselves as carers and short breaks and social activities.

The conference in Wimborne was hosted by Dorset County Council.

Catherine Driscoll, director for adult and community services at Dorset County Council, said: “In Dorset, 49,000 people provide care on a regular basis.

“We recognise the invaluable contribution they make to the health, wellbeing and economy of the community and we are committed to raising their profile.”

The final strategy will be published in July.
