The death of a man in Hampshire is being treated as murder by detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Investigation Team.

Police were called at 4.55pm on Saturday, May 11, 2013 to a report of a man’s body inside an address on Seagrove Road in North End, Portsmouth.

The man was pronounced dead by emergency services at the scene where circumstances suggested he had been the victim of an assault.

A 39-year-old man from Hampshire was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Kath Barnes said: “Detectives from the Hampshire Major Investigation Team (HMIT) are in the early stages of enquiries to identify the victim and inform next-of-kin.

“A Home Office pathologist is due to carry out a post-mortem examination on Sunday to help establish the cause of death. HM Coroner has been updated.

“Part of Seagrove Road was sealed off so a forensic examination of the scene could begin.

“I’d like to thank local residents for their co-operation and assistance with the investigation so far.

“We will try to keep any disruption to a minimum as a number of officers continue working in the Seagrove Road area this weekend.

“There is no information to suggest a wider risk to the community from this crime."
