DAN Knight hailed Sean Adams performance against Marshfield last weekend as his finest in a Calne shirt.

Adams was third to the crease and his knock of 150, which came from just 138 deliveries and included eight sixes and 11 fours, proved decisive as Calne notched up their first win since returning to the Wadworth 6X West of England Premier League this season.

“He’s played for us for three seasons now and that’s the best we’ve ever seen him bat,” said captain Knight.

“Some of the boundaries he hit were massive and when you have someone play like that, it really sets you up.

“Everyone got that bit of extra confidence from seeing what Sean did and it was a good all-round team performance too.”

Calne batted first and were driven forward by Adams’ superb knock.

Stuart Windsor hit the hosts’ second-highest total with 24 as Calne posted 246-6.

Knight’s men continued to pile on the pressure with the ball, with Julian Kearney starring as he claimed 4-25.

Marshfield skipper Dan Watson hit 47 whilst Jeremy Bond added a late 42 but Calne’s Courtney Earl and James Smees claimed two wickets apiece as the visitors were skittled for 154 after 41 overs.

Meanwhile, Marlborough inflicted a first defeat of the season on local rivals Burbage & Easton Royal.

Tom Wallbridge’s Burbage batted first after winning the toss and openers Sourish Mukherjee (39) and David Cope (39) gave the middle order a platform to build on.

But after Ben Head took the crucial wicket of Michael Papps, Marlborough turned the screw and Alex Cox starred with the ball, taking 5-28 as Burbage were out for 150.

Tom Norris’ hosts were put under pressure as Burbage’s Adam Lavis took 4-48 but Bob Homani was influential with the bat as his 61 helped Marlborough reach 151-8 in the 39th over.

Norris said: “It’s a great win which gives us confidence we can compete in this league.

“Cox was the outstanding and a good partnership between Homani and (Peter) Day steadied the ship after losing early wickets.”

A century from Rob Palmer wasn’t enough to stop Great Bedwyn suffering a 71-run defeat at the hands of Devizes.

Joe Wookey’s hosts opted to bat first, with Tim Saye (66), Tom Andrew (43*), James Langan (39) and Jon Bedbrook (37) all finding their range with the bat.

Bedwyn skipper Dan Swatton claimed four wickets but Devizes posted a healthy 278-7.

Palmer led the run chase for the visitors with his knock of 103 off 100 balls but Swatton was the closest behind with his knock of 25.

Devizes’ captain Wookey took 3-24 as Bedwyn were all out for 207 after 38 overs.
