Southampton FC transfer rumour round-up - Summer 2013
2:10pm Tuesday 18th June 2013 in Saints News
By Dan Kerins, Digital Editor
Handshake - plenty of deals will be agreed in the Premier League this summer
Welcome to the semi-annual Southampton FC transfer rumour round-up list, where the Daily Echo collates all the transfer rumours currently doing the rounds.
Here is a list of all the players linked with moves to - and away from - Southampton during the 2013 summer transfer window.
If you come across a rumour you think has some substance to it, add it to the comments below and we'll add it to the list.
Don't forget - these are just rumours. Although there may well be some level of interest, not every deal can go ahead!
Of course, that's not to say there wasn't some interest in the first place.
We are also collecting together the Premier League rumours every day, in our daily rumour mill, which will provide the latest transfer tales from all of Saints' divisional rivals in the Premier League.

The links to left and right backs are interesting, but slightly worrying. If we do sign in this area I'd like to think they will be players who are happy to be around the fringes, but equally they need to be quality to put pressure on the youngsters.
Getting the balance right will be tricky I think.
Players I'd like to see as definite first names on the team sheet next season would be: Shaw, Clyne, Cork, Spider, Rickie (unless we really do buy big). I'd also include Adam, but I know many on here don't rate his performances this season. And Boruc could also be in there unless they buy someone young of great quality. The fact they passed on Butland though suggests that one is covered.
Maya or Forren could also be first choices, but that all depends on who we bring in.
Ramirez SHOULD be a first choice based on his flashes of quality, but he's going to have to consistently deliver if he wants to do that. Whether MP cashes in on him for his own choice in that position remains to be seen.

We shouldn't get over-excited though, because we discovered last summer that official rumours are not fully accredited unless they are designated as fully authorised official rumours - and even then they need bona fide sanction.
This makes life harder than it need be for anxious fans and my own view is that the various layers of certification of rumours need to be reduced, with nothing below "ratified rumour" status being planted in the first place and only "countenanced rumours" being considered for ratification (and others being marked as sub-warranted gossip).
The sad consequence of all of this is that there are a lot of arguments on here about whether a rumour is any good or not instead of energies being stored for arguments about the actual content of the rumours.
Of course it could be that the official rumour which rumoured to be issued at 1.30pm will be a statement about rumours, rather than an actual rumour itself.
Meanwhile, we should keep clear heads.

Granero I would as a replacement for Gaston Ramirez, very similar attacking midfielders, however he's not a good as Gaston.

This thread is going to be all "Phillippe Santander-Bastardo from Racing Algiers is coming into St Marys for a trial" and it's like even if they're right (which is exceptionally unlikely) I'll still be none the wiser.

... the Croatia international centre-back fell out of favour at OL following an interview with Sportske Novosti in which he criticised the club.
Also, seems odd that they are quoting £8 million for a player that they don't want, especially for a defender. Think they might have seen us coming.
I see Spurs could pick up Mario Gomez from Bayern for a similar sized fee.

Victor Moses might do a job for us.
Depends on what our ideas are on wage structures and what he's on I guess. Seems Gaston is on a lot of money so maybe we have flex.
If so, Nani for £8 million isn't such a bad option if you want a tricky winger.
Personally, I'm surprised he looks like going for that sort of money when he's 26 and, if he had a consistent run of games, can be destructive (and not just to opponent's ribs).

We have one who's over the hill, one who's a novice, signed for far too much money, and one who is a carpet bagger, stop gap, panic signing.
If we don't sign a quality goalkeeper then we will be languishing in the bottom 3 all next season just as we were for most of the last.
As LMcM said when he signed Shilts a good goalkeeper is worth 10 to 15 points a season.

We must sign a PL quality goalkeeper.
But what does LMcM know about football compared to Nicola Cortese?

I don't know. I had business in Redditch of all places I never heard of(What kind of place or weather, on earth was that all about!) and logged in too late to win.
Of all the people/logins I have heard of St Redford gets my bet.

i'm beginning to get a little frustrated with us not having signed anyone or if the club doesn't want to announce completed deals at least reassure the fans they do want to improve the squad. If EVERY other club can do some business why aren't we ??? I think Les Reed is a massive problem at the club and I don't honestly believe he has the clubs interests at heart. MP should in my opinion be the sole controller of players in and out and targets
I am sure that there are negotiations going on behind the scenes, both inwards and outgoing. No good making an issue about Les Reed and Co. coz we don't know whether what he is doing is good or bad, only time will tell, I am not going to judge just on rumour and inuendo, that would be foolish.
