MELCOMBE Regis had a superb 6-4 points victory over last year’s champions Greenhill.

Leading the great team performance was George Con-stant, Howard King, Andy Crawford and Bob Bover, who saw off skip Dave Ralph and his four of Harry Hovendon, Alex Bignal and St John Corben.

They were 9-8 up after 10 ends and, courtesy of a brilliant five on the 12th, pulled away to win 25-14.

Bill Bailey, Doug Plumpton, Pat Rod and Dennis Branney just missed out to John Crabb, Colin Poulter, Doug Obee and Martin Puckett, going down 15-13.

Tony Colton, Mike Walker, John Samways and Dave Wise had a good tussle with the highly-rated Barry Paterson rink.

Melcombe trailed 9-8 after 13 ends and eventually went down 18-11 to Paterson, Peter Brown, Bill Foote and Warren Smith.

However, in terms of the overall shots, Melcombe won 49-47.

Monday League Premier Division One

NEWLY-promoted Melcombe Regis have made a promising start to their season, beating visitors Greenhill 8-2 on points.

Skip Dennis Branney is in fine form and his rink of George Constant, Doug Plum-pton and Pat Rod sailed into a 13-3 lead by the 10th end of their match.

Greenhill’s Keith Pritchard, Graham Dale, Keith Richie and Mike Chislett rallied briefly but the Melcombe four eased to a 20-12 success.

Mike Walker, Phil Enemy, John Samways and Dave Wise trailed 11-9 to John Allen, G Chard, Tony Bennett and Danny Brooks but the home rink took over to win 18-14.

After 10 ends of their match against John Hodder, Pete Child, Dave Brisco and Maurice Zollo, Melcombe’s Tony Colton, Bill Bailey, Andy Crawford and Bob Bover extended their advantage to wrap up a 21-15 win. In all, that gave the host club a 55-47 victory.

Friday League South Dorset Division One

AN 8-2 points win was the reward for Melcombe Regis from their trip to Dorchester as the visitors came away with a 72-40 shot advantage.

Mike Walker, Pete Birch, Bill Bailey and skip Dennis Bran-ney were in excellent form, going 18-5 up by 10 ends.

They continued that dominance to win 32-7 against Colin Lawley, P Cox, Ken Whatley and Gary Mumford.

Supporting well was George Constant, Dave Slater, John Samways and skip Bob Bover, who led their game 11-6 after 10 ends.

Colin Ackerman, Roy Fowler, Barry Day and Pete Clarke had no answer and the visiting four won 23-13.

Tony Colton, Paul Davis, Howard King and Dave Wise just missed out to Pete Stevenson, Ashley Jury, Dave Joslin and Dave Glanville, losing 20-17 to give Dorchester their two points.

Percy Baker Triples

MELCOMBE Regis’ fine form continued in the Percy Baker Triples, played on a four-league basis round-roubin.

Playing on home turf, Melcombe eased to a 42-16 victory over Sherborne with Fred Amey, Dennis Branney, Brian Tovey on song in a superb 22-8 triumph over G Paron, E Grimmer and T Pollard.

Tony Colton, Doug Plum-pton and Pat Rod were convincing 20-8 victors against Brian Whaite, Peter Scott and Phil Lock for an overall 6-0 points success.
