A TV celebrity and rising movie star will launch the Oldbury Fun Run on Sunday, it has been announced.

Tristan Gemmill, who played Dr Adam Trueman on BBC's Casualty, will kick off the race and present winners with their prizes before joining the annual event's young contingent in the children run.

Organiser Chris Awde told the Gazette: "The Oldbury Fun Run Committee are delighted that Tristan Gemmill the local TV and film star has agreed to start this year's fun run and present the prizes.

"He will be bringing his family enjoying the fun day for both runners and all the family in the village."

The actor, who lives in Bristol, starred in the hospital drama between 2007 and 2011. He recently turned to the big screen appearing in Flying Blind, a movie filmed in Bristol.

The Oldbury Fun Run, which raises funds for charity CLIC Sargent, will start at 11am on Father's Day, Sunday, June 16.

Runners will be able to sign up to the race at the Anchor pub every day from 6pm to 7.30pm until Saturday or before the race.
