José Fonte has revealed the lengths that the Saints players have gone to in order to help record signing Dani Osvaldo settle at the club.

The 27-year-old striker joined from Roma last month, for a fee that could rise to as much as £14.6m.

The switch to Saints represents a major – and not necessarily easy – transition for the Argentine-born Italian international.

However, he and his girlfriend, the actress and singer Jimena Baron, are receiving plenty of assistance from the Saints squad as they attempt to find their feet in England.

Fonte said: “We’ve taken care of everything.

“We’ve taken care of his house, we’ve taken care of his car. He’s finding it really easy, because everyone is a good person in this club.

“You adapt very quickly and he’s completely settled. He just wants to move into his house.

“He’s still in a hotel, which is not the best, but soon he will move into his house and he will be even more settled.”

Fonte explained that the Saints players always make a conscious effort to help and include any new signing – in order to make it as easy as possible for them to integrate.

“We embrace them straight away, because without team spirit and togetherness we’re not going to achieve anything.

“We need to get to know our teammate who comes into the club, make him feel welcome, show him what he wants and what he needs and try and help him so he settles as quick as possible to help us on the pitch,” said the centre half.

After one substitute appearance and two starts, Osvaldo is still searching for his first Saints goal, although he came mighty close against West Ham, when an excellent Jussi Jaaskelainen save denied him.

However, while he is yet to find the net, Osvaldo has already shown plenty of flashes of his skill, threat and vision.

That has not gone unnoticed by Portuguese defender Fonte, who believes the forward will be a huge asset to the club.

“You can see in the game his quality, his movement,” he said.

“He’s creating, he’s lively, he gives us something different.

“He gives us some speed and some penetration and some good skills.

“He’s top class and I’m 100 per cent confident the goals will come.”
