Mauricio Pochettino was hopeful that both Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw would be fit to take part in training today.

Centre-half Lovren, who has been a revelation this season, missed the trip to Arsenal after becoming unwell.

Left-back Shaw was forced off at half-time at the Emirates Stadium following an injury he picked up while making an important tackle on Olivier Giroud.

The 18-year-old, who appeared to be holding his left thigh, required treatment, but was able to carry on playing until the interval.

Pochettino said: “Dejan Lovren had a really bad night. Hopefully he’s going to be back and fit 100 per cent for Monday.

“Also, we will need to analyse how Luke Shaw is doing, because in the first half he received a very strong knock on his leg.

“Hopefully the two of them will be back and ready for Monday.”

The Saints manager also revealed that he substituted captain Adam Lallana early in the second half as the midfielder was suffering from the effects of a knock picked up on international duty.

“Adam played two games with the national side and, after that, he was struggling a little bit physically,” explained Pochettino.

“There was a certain moment in the (first) game against Chile where he opened up his legs and I think that caused him some pain, and he was feeling that pain.

“There’s many games coming up, so we have to be careful with how we use our players – not just him, but a few of our other players we need to be careful how we manage the amount of games that we have ahead.”

Although Lallana suffered the problem in the first of the two England friendly matches that he started, Pochettino waved away any suggestions that he might have been unhappy at Roy Hodgson using the player for the subsequent game against Germany.

“No, I don’t want any type of controversy with anyone,” he said.

“I’m very happy that he was part of the English national side, I’m very happy for him.

“We just thought in the second half he was struggling physically, and that’s why we made the decision to change him.”
