A TEENAGER who thought he had won £1m after guessing the outcome of 14 football matches appears to have lost his powers of prediction.

Jordan Donnellan, 19, from Consett, County Durham, missed out on a fortune after filling out the wrong accumulator form recently, but played along with The Northern Echo for a charity bet at the weekend.

BetVictor offered him a free £50 bet at odds of 100/ 1 after he predicted the outcome for five of the North-East’s football teams.

If he had been successful, the bookie would have given £5,000 to The Northern Echo’s '£100,000 For Our Heroes' campaign for a new centre at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire to help servicemen and women suffering from physical and psychological injuries.

But the barman so far only has one out of four with Sunderland to play West Ham tonight (Monday) - a game he says the Hammers will win.

He said Newcastle would draw with Southampton, but they lost 4-0, Brighton would beat Middlesbrough, but Boro won 2-0 and Hartlepool would gain a draw at home to  Cheltenham, but they went down 1-0. He did, however, correctly predict that Darlington would beat Ossett Town.

Charlie McCann, of BetVictor, said: “Jordan was out of luck with his selections at the weekend but we would still like to make a donation of £100 to such a magnificent cause.”

Mr Donnellan said: “There were some unexpected results. It is not quite £5,000 but £100 is generous and better than nothing. It is great.”
