A HOLMES Chapel community group is making strides in its campaign to save a ‘vital’ facility in the heart of the community.

Following a survey and public meetings, WWW4HC has established a group of twenty volunteers, many of whom have ‘substantial relevant and professional experience’, to move the Save the AP Club campaign forward.

Discussions have been held with key stakeholders, including Sanofi, Cheshire East Council, Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, the Victoria Club, Holmes Chapel RUFC and Holmes Chapel Hurricanes.

Clr Steve Ranger, Chairman of Holmes Chapel Parish Council, said: “We are researching and preparing applications for funding to acquire and develop facilities.

“We are also talking to local organisations to identify their specific needs, with a view to putting together a sustainable business plan.”

The initial analysis of the survey, conducted earlier this year, suggested that the core sporting and requirements not being met by existing providers include a community centre, cinema or cafe, performance space, all weather sports pitch, fitness centre or sports hall.

Clr Ranger added: “Potential designs for a community centre embracing these requirements are being drawn up in order to develop cost estimates and a realistic development plan.

“These designs incorporate environmentally friendly design features.”
The latest plans and ideas from the project team will be on display at Holmes Chapel Village Fair on Sunday May 4 at the Victoria Club.

Members of the community are invited to come along and speak with the project team to find out more.

Clr Ranger added: “It is essential that we have the backing and commitment of the community to ensure its success.”

The AP club, on Station Road, closed its doors back in December. The health and fitness facility had been at the centre of the Holmes Chapel community for almost 40 years.
