FISHING: WITH fish spawning at Stanford’s The Warren lakes, there has been a mixed bag of catches this week. The best catch went to Gary Borja who caught a 28lb 1oz carp in the main lake.

While far from the largest fish caught it had the distinction of being his 45th 20lb plus carp out of a personal tally of 113 fish since the start of Febuary. The best angling moment of the week at The Warren went to Colin Hardy who hooked and landed a 25.5lb carp on 4lb line and a tiny size 16 hook.

The carp was caught on the tip while bream fishing. Sweetcorn was the successful bait. He also caught 15 bream (up to 6lb) to make it a memorable day. Liam Hubbard also reported a bag of 22 bream to 6.5lb from the pier area. Worm and caster was the bait used. The first couple of catfish have been reported from the main lake – weighing in at 33lb and 30lb. Both fish were caught by anglers trying for carp, the largest came from the meadow area. The square lake has produced carp to 24lb, with fish coming to floating baits on the warmer days, tench to 6.5lb, bream to 6lb plus roach, rudd and perch.

The match lake has produced tench to 7lb plus roach, perch and the occasional crucian carp.
