I HAVE now received four leaflets from parties putting forward candidates for the European Parliament. All had MEPs elected at the last election.

The leaflets deal at length on issues of British House of Commons politics over which the MEPs, if elected, would have no input and no influence. They refer to loss of power by British governments to ‘Europe’, without stating what their MEPs did to try to influence debates transferring power and how and if they voted on the claimed transfers.

With the exception of one small paragraph in one of the leaflets, there is no attempt by any of the MEPs to report back to the electorate.

We see no sign of their reporting back through your columns, and it seems that there will be no public meetings over the next week or so prior to the election.

The electorate is deprived of any chance to question members or candidates on what they would do in the Parliament if elected.

Can none of them tell us what action they personally are proposing to take – if elected – to influence the decisions of the Parliament, and on what specific areas of legislation?
