Daily Echo: Saints' transfer rumour round-up - Summer 2014 Saints' transfer rumour round-up - Summer 2014

It's that time of year again, as football's semi annual rumour mill goes into overdrive amid speculation of multi-million deals as clubs bid for glory.

Once again, the Daily Echo will be keeping you up-to-date with the latest rumours swirling around involving Saints players and staff.

These are only rumours, so don't think a deal is nailed on just because it is included in the list - it's up to you to decide which ones you believe and which ones you don't - not to mention which deals you like the look of and hope to come true!

The list will be updated as soon as we discover what the latest whispers are - it could be updated a few times in any one day, so be sure to keep checking back to make sure you don't miss out on the newest gossip.

If you come across a rumour you think is worthy of inclusion, email it to dan.kerins@dailyecho.co.uk along with your name and where you found the gossip.

The silence is deafening from st Mary's
I had hoped these rumours were just that rumours but I think something is about to go down.i think we could deal with shaw goin, target would have to step up then.it would be a different matter if Lallana went or mopo.
Players like Lallana are priceless and we should make sure we take the pool for every penny.i think a club statement wouldn't go amiss either.
We could lose shaw and buy lukaku with the money

Just heard on Sky Sports that Arse'n'all are in for Spyder too.

Dont' shoot me I ain't making these stories up and don't know is there's anything in it or not. Sky seems to have their finger on the post as much or maybe even more than the papers. Take a shot at them if you want.

Mrs Wilson says the club have decided not to issue a denial that they have "gone silent" even though the issuance would in itself, technically, represent an absence of silence and therefore prove their point. The concern is of course that although by making a noise by denying they have gone silent, they would only get off the hook for no longer being silent and they might well be challenged about only breaking their silence about the silence and not breaking their silence about all the other things they have been silent about.

They did also consider issuing a statement that they do not comment on rumours, but before they could do so somebody leaked it to the Echo and they rang St Marys to ask if the rumour that they were going to issue a statement saying they will not comment on rumours was true or not. This put the PR Dept in a 'no win' situation because if they confirmed or denied the rumour that were thinking of issuing a statement about not commenting on rumours, they would in doing so be commenting on a rumour - thus setting a dangerous precedent for handling all subsequent rumours and in particular rumours about rumours.

I've supported Saints for 58 years and it has been a memorable season for all the right reasons. Any aspirations to "go to the next level", presumably the top 6 are simply unrealistic. The investment needed, in the base case, to increase the capacity of St.Marys' to the required level, in excess of 40,000, together with a greatly increased wage bill, is unlikely to materialise without the intervention of Russian or Oil Sheikdom intervention. We are what we are, a great club with genuinely enthusiastic support from a largely local population, that, more often than not, punches above its weight. GCD

I understand and accept your reasoning, however there are currently some big differences that makes this an exception, for the immediate few seasons at least .
We have fortunately produced a large crop of good young players that only need about 3 or 4 more quality players added to make Saints capable of a top 6 place if we keep them all together. Also we are not in debt and we do not fall foul of the financial and home grown player rules. On top of that we have a training facility second to none and an academy that looks to continue to produce more young talent.
There are a few top players coming out of contract and with a part exchange for Osvaldo, we may not need to spent too much money to get the 4 quality players the squad needs to push us up there.

NC Fan4 LIfe. I would love to agree with you; we certainly have an excellent Academy, with apparently more young talent in the pipeline. Although it is claimed we will benefit to tune of close to £80M for the last season, we still, according to the recent long overdue accounts owe some £30M for the much upgraded training facility, and £24M in outstanding transfer payments. Whatever we can get for Osvaldo (and he has to go) will help, but not much. Hopefully we can also recover some of our initial outlay on Ramires by taking him out of his present misery, in the Premier League. Sadly the economic facts of life remain.

we dont owe` £30mill or the training ground, that was the cost of the entire project which started around 2yrs ago. we haven't `not paid` anything to the builders for 2 years, it will have been paid over the whole project, not in a lump sum at the end. also stage 2 recently started and that is a separate £15mill to stage 1, so stage 1 will probably have been paid by now. I would rather pay £30mill on a top quality (best in UK) academy and training ground than on 2-3 players. how much would we have to pay to have luke, lalla, JWP etc etc in our squad?
the £24mill in outstanding transfer fees didn't just pop up out of nowhere and it isn't a surprise that it has to be paid. it will therefore be budgeted for well in advance. we are not in bad financial position and do not need to sell players just to survive like we have done so many times in the past. a fair chunk of the transfer fees will be covered when we sell Osvaldo but we shouldn't sell Gaston Ramirez, he has started to put in some great performances and we need to strengthen the squad not lose players of his quality. he cant get in the team because lalla plays in the same position. to progress to the next level we need to have good reserves and subs not guly (and I`m not a guly hater!).
the economic facts are that the financial figures for last season left us with just a £7mill debt.

It's so re-assuring there are those who empathize.

She just doesn't understand my needs which are fairly basic and simple (I am not a complex person) The only time I want to see her is when she's bringing me food or a cold beer when the games is on the telly or she's bringing me her purse when I need the money to get a ticket.

And she can't even meet those basic and reasonable requests........wait a sec just got order a sammich ....... sorry fellas where were we?

the economic facts are that the financial figures for last season left us with just a £7mill debt.
Compared to Manchester United whose debt has just fallen by £16m to £351.7m, their profits were £11m, revenue £115.5m, but only making 7th means it will cost them £30m, a spokesman said the Club was in "a healthy position to invest in the Squad"!. This is of course the biggest Club in the country so nothing to worry about there then. I think we are on a different planet, that is why we look so vulnerable.

A series of interesting posts. On no account should we sell Ramirez. He is beginning to adapt to the PL and next season we should seem him at his best. He can complement Adam if Adam stays and is a more than adequate replacement for Adam should Adam decide to go. Why so many people are wanting to sell him on I don't know. Bear in mind that he seems to heal quite quickly - I remember seeing how than ankle went over and it made my eyes water, when he did it again in front of goal, I really worried we might be seeing the end of him if it had re-occurred. He bounced back though, he'll have a good world cup and up his worth by at least 5m. Leave him alone he is class. We have a couple of positions which need strengthening and I'm sure whoever is the manager next season will see that and remedy it. Next season, barring a string of terrible injuries, and we all know that can happen and the season can be over for us by Xmas - it happened before, will be just as exciting and a little more successful 7th or below and a cup final (win or lose) is realistic,

We won't get anything for Ramires as he plays for Chelsea. Gaston, however I think will stay for now, as he knows he is in safe hands, he just needs a run of injury free games and I think we will then get the best out of him.

Call him what ever you like his name's still Ramirez. Camberley take a trawl through the posts on Saints and the finances please. I'm not going to spout what other people have put on here many times now. Those "Debts" are spread we do not have to pay them right now. Please do a search and stop torturing yourself. I'll put a Saints pie (as putrid as they are) on Gaston Ramirez (there everybody's happy now) will, if he remains be a real asset to this club over the next couple of seasons.

The accounts were not "long overdue"! I've read them in full, and they are actually very healthy. Although a loss was declared, this was after depreciation and amortisation - players transfer and sign on fees are depreciated over the life of their contractsbut in reality, the value of many of our players is going up. In cash terms, we're doing fine.

If newspaper reports are to be believed Saints are about to lose their manager, Lallana, Clyne, Lovren, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Jay Rod and Ricky Lambert. I am sure that other clubs are indeed casting envious eyes but if Saints sold that lot they would be relegation fodder for certain and clearly that is not on the agenda. Firstly, all the signs are that Poch is staying. He has by all accounts been offered a fantastic personal deal and a sizeable transfer "war-chest". Spuds is so obviously a high risk poison chalice and I am sure Poch gets that fully. Secondly, despite Alan Hansen's hang dog, morose and ill informed assertions, Saints really don't have to sell to balance their books. However, I am sure that like any club, if offers are big enough they may see it as good business to sell and re-invest that money in the squad. The current bids are simply just not ringing those bells. All the talk of "done deals" appears to be fabricated by the national press. I would suggest the green lights may actually start blinking at maybe £35m for Lallana and £40m for Shaw but why would Saints sell for less? I seriously doubt that Lovren, Clyne or Jay Rod are going anywhere. Schneiderlin apparently wants to move but in all truth his form this year has been very patchy so he is not irreplaceable. IMHO Harrison Reed will outshine him very soon anyway - one to watch next season. Fonte? Might possibly be good business to sell him to Hull at this point and replace him with better e.g. the likes of Caulker. Same for Ricky in all honesty, though it would be very sad to see him go. I really cant see Ramirez moving as we have not yet seen the best of him. What does continue to concern me is the quality of incoming players. Apparent links to bargain basement "B list" players like Quagliarella and Neil Taylor if true would suggest a lack of real ambition. Scott Sinclair, if true, could be a good move as I do believe that Saints are well placed to resuscitate his stalled career from the Man City "black hole". So, in summary, I am not at all "fearful" for the future but at the same time, I do want to see the Saints board targeting some real quality to take us to the next level and that means seeing our name in the frame for the likes of Lukaku and others of that calibre.

I told you Cortese doesn't like the winter. Seasonal Affective Disorder, that's what it is - hits December and January and boom.
My missus gets that. Lasts from September thru till May. Just in case she feels she's getting out of practice every 28 days she has a dress rehearsal. My life's not that wonderful all in all.

And of course the World Cup is a brilliant barometer for buying players isn't it - get me Tim Cahill, Clint Dempsey, Dejaga and Ghan on the phone right away.

Never write players off based on performances at tournaments and never sign them on the back of them either.

I have to say Cortese made that mistake at the Olympics in 2012 (Gaston, Maya and Mayuka based on international form) and countless clubs have done the same road in the past.

The Premier League is a totally different ball game, which probably explains the mystery of why England are so shocking. Some players are just made for international football and others, inexplicably, aren't. Shearer and Le Tiss are good examples. And Klose is another. Podolski and Ozil are hardly setting the Premier League alight either, but for their countries they are formidable.

I'd like to see as many English players bought in as possible Danny Ings as the replacement for SRL. We must put our trust in Rambo's choices though.

The message on the OS 'Season Tickets still on general sale!' That sounds a wee bit panicky to me!. I also know a few regulars that have decided that the carnival is over and aren't renewing, more down to belt tightening than lack of desire. I hope they regret the decision later, but there isn't a lot of encouragement at the moment to spend hard earned cash.

Is Graziano Pelle really 28? I was excited by the deal as he's played for Southampton before, way back in the day when I brought him as a wonder kid on Football Manager (maybe Championship Manager then). He was a superb, went on to develop into a world class superstar in a Premiership winning team, the future has already happened. £8m is a snip. :) Oh yeah, guess 28 is about right, the day was ten, or eleven years ago.

What are people's thoughts on David Marshall? He seems decent alternative, but not a step up from Boruc. Of course we do need an alternative, maybe an alright signing, but I'm wary of goalies from relegated teams: they are so often picked out as the star players, but it is surely in part just that they face more attempts on thier goal and have the opportunity to make more saves...

have no clue why you got a thumbs down for your post. I was trying to assess what areas I felt needed strengthening from last season before we embarked on this ill thought out strategy of selling our best players and in my opinion it was

GK x 1
LB x 1
CB x 1
CF x 1 or 2
winger x 1

So having sold Lambert, Shaw and Lallana and with a very real possibility the board are chomping at the bit to sell Lovren and Schneiderlin it adds 1 LB, 1 CB and 1CM to the list so potentially 9 players need to be integrated into the squad. I don't know about anyone else but that worries me a little. But to be honest since Krueger, Liebherr and Reed seem hell bent on this path of destroying the club if we stay up I think that would deserve a huge pat on the back for Koeman who in my opinion has taken on an immensely difficult task as I am yet to detect he has anything like 50% support of the board let alone 100% that any manager deserves. I know I harp on about this but I am puzzled by the clubs casualness about this situation

This could mean there is another youngster to understudy for Targett or Rambo is going to rely on Clyne to cover. That's saved us between 5-10million then.

It would be great to have an English signing but if this fella Tadic signs that gives us Tadic and Isford and maybe even JRod down the left so not sure we would need him. Good player though and worth a look.

An announcement made on radio Solent says Targett has been offered a contract with a view to stepping into Shaw's shoes and we don't need a LB now. This could mean there is another youngster to understudy for Targett or Rambo is going to rely on Clyne to cover. That's saved us between 5-10million then.
If true this gives much more credibility to my thoughts about this board. Another day has passed with no signing. And to those tempted to give my thumbs down for my honest opinion just so you know I don't care. I'm just expressing my views that since Cortese left this club has been run appallingly. Lets present my justification for my opinion

Sponsors- Rubbish who has ever heard of Veho i've never seen any of their products in any main stream shop nor had I been aware of their massive online presence. I thought Krueger said he wanted to enhance our commercial income not likely to be achieved by getting poor unknown companies.

Player Sales and no purchases - Not how you improve on an 8th place finish think even 5-10 year olds know the only way to improve on a league finish is to add to a succesful squad not sell the stars.

Failure to openly communicate with fans as promised. Yes Les Reed is wheeled out occasionaly to say some untruths or suitably vague comments

And worst of all is the failure to make "decisions that are in the bests interests of the club" This encompasses everything else.

It's gutting that this club worked so hard to get itself back on it's feet and Krueger and Reed are destroying it. Now no doubt some calmer people will say patience and give the board a chance but everytime I try I come back to the lack of passion and action for Southampton FC if the club is being sold then I hope it is concluded quickly as at the moment Katarina Liebherr seems intent on upsetting us fans rather than making us smile.

It's more galling then when we nearly went bust as I look at it and think of where we could have been with the right strategy.

Are you for real????

Whats wrong with having an up and coming loal company as our sponsors? Had you heard of AAP3 previously then?

No football club openly communicates with its fans, we certainly didnt under Cortese so why would we now?

You cannot keep hold of players that dont want to stay and we have done really good business on geting ver inflated prices for them in my opinion which is beig reinvesed in the squad.

Finally why you and others are still banging on about KL selling the club is beyond me....

She got rid of Cortese as he was at risk of ruining us financially agan. She is followinghe Dads dream, would you sell up if your Dad had a vision for something? She has appointed a new board, new manager, promised funds and was virtually every game last season afr Cortese left... Does that sound like someone who wants out?

She doesnt need to sell, she is a BILLIONAIRE......

true... she has no interest is selling the club, but she does want the investment protected and the good name of the Leibherrs upheld. Hence why she got rid of NC and why she has installed ( or played a part in giving the green light to ) a family man who will manage with integrity and steady the ship. I have it on reasonable authority that she was heard to say to a colleague at the stadium : "one step backwards to take two steps forwards is often necessary" and I predict this coming season we will finish 10th and the following season higher , hopefully sneak a Europa league outing.... I also predict a cup final appearance within the next 3 years.

It at the moment seems to be nothing but hot air coming out of st marys, now the worrying thing is, lovren we no wants to leave, spuds are now preparing bids for rodriquez and spider and its romoured both want to leave, if they want to go they will, we have seen that, and were haggling over prices 4 other players yet when clubs are doing that to us were playing hard ball, targeting players who utd are targeting, the danger in that is while we waste our time targetting utd players 1 out come will be yhey will sign 4 utd, ee risk losing another 3 players fonte as refused to sign a new contract, we miss are other targets and buy cheap foreign imports who have to gel as a team, they or this plan fails we will be relegated by febuary, abuse me all you want that is the reality, the club needs to meet the valuations, pay the money and get the plsyers, it should of been done already, most certainky with the ammount of players we need and only 3 pre season games remaining we will be putting out a dishearted bunch of strangers in august panic buy and we are left behind 100 percent, 4 me the bookies should have us favourites 4 relegation as things stand, tadic hasnt even been giving a work permit, unless things change in a couple of days its worrying times unless your deluded you should all be worried as well.
