Sunderland have confirmed that supporters who attended the 8-0 defeat at Saints will be offered ticket refunds from the players.

Black Cats keeper Vito Mannone had said after Saturday’s humiliating result that he would speak to the squad about reimbursing the 2,600 fans who made the trip to St Mary’s.

The club today revealed that offer had been formalised and that supporters could either reclaim the money, or have it donated to Sunderland-based children’s hospice Grace House.

Captain John O’Shea said: “We win and lose as a team, players, staff and fans, however we wanted to acknowledge and thank the supporters who travelled such a long way to give us their backing and despite everything, stayed with us until the final whistle.”

Sunderland fans will have until 5pm on Wednesday, November 5, to reclaim the money.
