Sadio Mane is Saints’ only injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hull.

The winger missed last night’s 3-2 win at Stoke in the Capital One Cup with an ankle problem, but could return for this weekend’s Premier League fixture at the KC Stadium.

Saints’ only definite absentees will be Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse, as they recover from long-term injuries.

Manager Ronald Koeman said: “Only the question is about Sadio Mane.

“He will do this afternoon and tomorrow morning training. If he is ok in both sessions he can be part of the squad for this Saturday.”

If Mane does not start, it will almost certainly mean another appearance for ex-Hull star Shane Long, who got his first goal for the club in last night’s match.

Koeman was pleased with the Republic of Ireland forward’s display and praised his impact following his £12m summer switch from Saturday’s opponents.

He said: “It’s very important, because he’s a striker and a striker lives about scoring goals, but in the beginning he needs some more time to adapt, because in the way how we play, in the position where he plays – yesterday he was a little bit more comfortable, because he played behind Graziano, but it’s a fantastic sign.

“He’s a good boy, always good spirit and, of course, it’s important for the player to score goals.”
