Saints captain Jose Fonte admitted his disappointment at failing to keep a clean sheet against Chelsea – but still reflected on a positive point.
Ronald Koeman’s side earned a 1-1 draw against the Premier League leaders yesterday, keeping their place in the top four.
The result might have been even better had they not conceded an equaliser in first-half stoppage time.
Cesc Fabregas pounced on the ball in midfield and slipped a pass down the left to Eden Hazard, who cut inside to score.
“It was good, but we still conceded one goal, but considering the firepower that Chelsea has and the pressure they’ve put us under it was quite pleasing the point,” said Fonte.
“We’re disappointed to concede in the last minute of the first half, in the way that it was.
“But, at the end of the day, you have to agree they put a lot of pressure on us.
“We did a good job and we got a good point.”
