Saints keeper Fraser Forster described the point against Chelsea as a fantastic one, and hailed the superb team effort that earned them a draw.

Forster saw the players in front of him restrict the Premier League leaders to just one shot on target in the whole game, as they dealt incredibly well with the huge pressure they were put under at times.

“It was a fantastic performance defensively,” said Forster. “It was a great team effort.

“We made them work really hard and it’s credit to everyone, from Grazi (Graziano Pelle) all the way back, so it’s fantastic.

“Obviously, we’ve really limited those opportunities and that’s what you have to do against teams like Chelsea, so we can be really pleased with that.”

Saints might not have extended their winning run to three games, following the successes against Everton and Crystal Palace, but Forster believes they can be extremely satisfied to have kept their unbeaten streak going, ahead of the visit of Arsenal on New Year’s Day.

“It’s fantastic,” he said of the result.

“It’s always tough playing twice in 48 hours and, obviously, against Chelsea you’re always going to be worked and they’re going to have a lot of possession.

“So it’s a fantastic point and it just keeps that momentum going after two fantastic results and it carries us on nicely to the Arsenal game.”

Forster added: “We’ve played really well against some of the bigger teams in the league and we’ve probably not had that bit of luck, or not quite seen it through, so obviously it was nice, being under so much pressure, to then see the game out, and come out of the game with something.

“There’s plenty of positives we can take out of the game, and, obviously, it’s a fantastic point, so we can be proud of that and move on into Arsenal.”

Attention now turns to that clash with the Gunners, who are in fifth place, behind Saints by virtue of goal difference.

“Every game is a massive game for us at the minute, especially at home,” said Forster.

“Obviously, we’ll have the support and the fans will be fantastic.

“It will be just important we go into it and try and stamp our authority on the game.

“We’ve obviously played them a couple of times and played really well against them and, if we can play like that, it will be a fantastic game.”
