RONALD Koeman won’t attempt to solve Saints’ injury woes by diving into the transfer market.

The manager is refusing to panic despite seeing Toby Alderweireld, Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama all picking up injuries over the past few days.

Alderweireld went off injured during the win at Old Trafford last Sunday and Wanyama suffered a hamstring problem in Wednesday’s FA Cup replay triumph at Ipswich.

In addition, the influential Schneiderlin has been sidelined with an adductor (hip) injury.

Saints are also currently without Sado Mane, Maya Yosida and Emmanuel Mayuka on international duty, and Jay Rodriguez remains on the road to recovery from his knee injury suffered last April.

Despite all that, Koeman is standing by his stance that Saints don’t need to use the current transfer window to seek re-inforcements.

But he knows if things get any worse, then a second January signing – after loan winger Eljero Elia – will be considered.

“I still think we can still handle this up until now, but if we get more problems then of course it will be a problem for us,” the Dutchman said.

“We know that.”

Koeman is hoping the best case scenario is that he will be without Schneiderlin and Alderweireld for just two league games – tomorrow’s long trek to Newcastle and the February 1 home game with Swansea.

In addition to those two players, defender Maya Yoshida should also be available by the time Saints travel to Harry Redknapp’s QPR on Saturday, February 7.

Jack Cork, who has not played for the first team since December 3, is expected to feature against Newcastle.
