SWANSEA City will be paying the price for a lack of discipline when they face Saints at St Mary’s this Sunday.

The Welsh club will be without both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Kyle Bartley following their dismissals in the 3-1 FA Cup fourth round loss at Blackburn Rovers.

Sigurdsson became the eighth Swansea player to be shown a red card in 2014/15 when he was dismissed late on.

His sending off for a lunge at Chris Taylor came after Bartley had been given his marching orders just six minutes in following a foul.

Wilfried Bony (in the 1-0 home loss to Saints last September), Angel Rangel, Jonjo Shelvey, Federico Fernandez, Wayne Routledge and Lukasz Fabianski are others to have been given early baths this term.

In contrast, Saints have had just two players sent off in 2014/15 – Florin Gardos (v Sheffield United, League Cup) and Morgan Schneiderlin (v Chelsea, Premier League) – and only four since the start of 2013.

Despite their red card woes, Swansea have actually picked up fewer Premier League bookings (31) than any other club this term.

Fernandez and Routledge saw their bans overturned on appeal, but Shelvey was suspended for a second time after being retrospectively punished for flinging a forearm towards Emre Can at Liverpool.

Talking about his club’s dismissals, Rangel said: “We know it’s not acceptable. There is no one explanation, sometimes these things happen in sport.

“Sometimes we have been unlucky with the decisions referees have given against us and sometimes we have deserved them.

“On Saturday, the first one (Bartley) wasn't meant and the second one is in the last few minutes of the game when we are 3-1 down and it was Gylfi's frustration.”
