Confusion surrounds a possible Saints move for attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic.
The Serbian FA posted a message on their official Facebook page stating that the 22-year-old had joined Saints on loan for the remainder of the season.
However, they have added that it is based on a statement on the official Saints website, which not only doesn’t exist but which the club know nothing about.
The Daily Echo understands that Saints have been investigating a possible move for Serbian international Djuricic this month, but backed away from what was looking like a very complex deal.
The Benfica man, who can play in any of the attacking midfield roles or even as a striker if required, is currently on a season long loan with German side Mainz.
Saints have not completely ruled out a move for Djuricic, and it is possible they may redouble their efforts if Jack Cork does refuse a new contract at Saints and the club decide sell him this month.
However, it could be a tough deal to seal and might prove hard to push through before the transfer window closes on Monday if it hits a stumbling block, meaning Saints may prefer a player who would be a swifter transfer if they are to bring in another body in the next few days.
