It wasn’t just Saints’ Champions League hopes that had some cold water poured on them at West Brom.
The players also had to deal with a bit of it themselves too, after a burst pipe at the Hawthorns meant a lack of hot water in the dressing rooms after the match.
“We were down and out anyway after the game,” said striker Shane Long, when asked about it.
“We were disappointed at not winning, going into the Palace game.
“I didn’t mind the cold showers at all.
“It’s just disappointing. It’s a long bus journey home.”
Long added: “It was a tough game. It was tough to break them down.
“We just couldn’t get through. We had a few opportunities.
“If we’d scored then we might have kicked on and won the game, but it wasn’t to be.”
