Saints are hoping to today discover the extent of Morgan Schneiderlin’s injury.

The French midfielder limped from the field in the closing stages of the 2-2 draw with Tottenham after injuring his left knee.

He left St Mary’s with his knee in a brace but Saints will send him for a scan and examine the results today to find out whether the problem is likely to sideline him in the coming weeks.

Schneiderlin has missed eight league games this season through injury and suspension.

Saints have won three of them – home to Arsenal and Everton and at Newcastle – and lost four (home to Manchester United and Swansea and at Arsenal and Burnley).

They also drew 0-0 at home to West Ham without the influential Frenchman.
