Ronald Koeman admitted his frustration as Saints were beaten 2-1 at Sunderland.

The Saints boss saw his side lose to two Jordi Gomez penalties, with James Ward-Prowse sent off ten minutes into the second half.

It was a below par performance from Saints who just seemed a little flat at the Stadium of Light.

Koeman was frustrated that he didn’t feel his side really played until they went down to ten.

“Yes, that’s true (Saints were flat),” said Koeman.

“I think we didn’t reach our level. Frustrated about that.

“It’s strange that with one player less on the pitch we showed our football and our qualities and before not.

“I think we had too much mistakes in our ball possession.

“The first ten minutes after half time was very poor and out of one of those situations came the penalty, the red card, and then you know it’s difficult.

“That’s so strange and sometimes understandable that the reaction then is with one player less that we were the better team and the dominating team and that’s difficult to understand.”

Koeman though was not about to blame referee Mike Jones for the defeat, despite the official handing the Black Cats two spot kicks.

“I don’t know I didn’t saw. I have to see it back,” he said of the awards.

“Maybe the first one is an easy given one.

“The second I don’t know, but it’s so easy to talk about the referee, about the decisions of the referee.

“We did those kind of mistakes to give them that chances or possibilities to have that kind of situations in our box.”
