Southampton's James Ward-Prowse and Matt Targett have been included in the England under-21 27-man squad for this summer's European Championships.

The 20-year-old midfielder, Ward-Prowse, is hoping that he can win the trophy with the young Three Lions in the Czech Republic and will have that opportunity after today's announcement by The FA.

Left-back Targett, who has played 12 times for Saints this term, has also been selected.

Both of them will have under a month to prepare for the tournament, which starts on 17 June and runs through to the 30 June.

Ward-Prowse and Targett, however, will still have their attentions firmly fixed on helping Ronald Koeman's side qualify for Europe as they take on Manchester City in a crunch Premier League finale on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.

Much of the focus ahead of the under-21s' selection was whether or not Gareth Southgate would include ex-Saint and Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw and Tottenham's Harry Kane.

There is worry from both Spurs and United that Shaw and Kane would suffer from burn-out if they were to travel to the championships.

Southgate included Kane, but not Shaw.

Another ex-Saints, Arsenal's Calum Chambers, was also named.

The squad will be reduced to 23 for the tournament.
