Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dani Osvaldo, Toby Alderweired and Dejan Lovren shirts were swapped in their droves over the weekend as Saints fans put the past behind them.

The name of those former players printed on old shirts made up the top five of strips swapped by hundreds of the St Mary's faithful, as beer company Carling hosted their shirt amnesty outside Southampton's Guildhall.

The initiative gave fans the opportunity to swap their shirt with the name of a recently sold player on the back for a new one.

In their place, supporters favoured striker Jay Rodriguez, the most popular choice of the current squad, as the new name on the back on the club's new shirt.

More than 150 Saints fans brought down their old shirt with Carling replacing it for a new one, free of charge.

"It was great to see so many Saints fans on Saturday," said Jim Shearer from Carling.

"To see queues of supporters two hours before the van hatch opened just goes to show what a passionate bunch they are.

"We swapped more than 150 shirts and the feedback from fans was extremely positive.

"As it was our first Carling Shirt Amnesty event, we didn't have a set target in terms of numbers, but we were delighted to reward the loyal Saints fans with a brand new shirt for next season.”
