Ronald Koeman is hopeful a raft of injury doubts will be fit to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Steven Davis, Victor Wanyama, James Ward-Prowse and Jay Rodriguez have all been struggling, but all four have returned to training just in time to be considered for selection.

Shane Long remains sidelined but goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg should be back.

Koeman said: “We had some kicks out of the Leicester game but we had a good week.

“Players like Davis, Wanyama, Prowsey, Jay Rodriguez, had some physical problems this week, but it looks like all these players are available for the weekend, except the same as last week.

“Still Shane Long will be out, Maarten Stekelenburg is back. He did yesterday and today normal training session and he will be available for the weekend.”

Of Long he added: “He’s progressing well.

“The weekend is too short to be available but I have good hope that for the next weekend that he will be fit again.”

Koeman reported that Rodriguez has been struggling with pains in his feet.

Though he had said the £7m man could be available for Liverpool, the Saints boss will take a cautious approach.

“Jay at the moment is a little bit struggling with his feet. He had one week or ten days ago a reaction in his feet to recover from really some pains on his feet,” said Koeman.

“That’s disappointing because Jay by himself likes to improve, likes to be part of the team and he wasn’t 100 per cent physical wise.

“He had to recover from the pain to show what he can be as a player.

“Be patient, that’s the best thing he has to do.”
