SAINTS youngster Ryan Seager will not give up trying to break into the club's first-team.

The 19-year-old played the full game in yesterday’s 4-0 friendly win against Ajax at Staplewood and has been around Ronald Koeman’s team in the last few weeks.

The striker has appeared on the bench in wins over Aston Villa and Sunderland recently and, although he is yet to make it onto the pitch for the first-team this campaign, he intends to keep working hard to keep in Koeman’s thoughts.

"It's fantastic,” Seager told Saints’ YouTube channel, when asked what it was like to be involved with the first-team.

“At the start of the season that was my aim, to get in and around it again, and I have done the last few weeks and hopefully I've been doing well in training to impress the coach and I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing.”

Seager, who has three goals in four appearances for the under-21 side this term, enjoyed the run out against Ajax.

The game was organised for the club’s youngsters and Saints players that weren’t away on international duty to get some game time.

"It's a big opportunity to show the first-team staff what we've got,” he said. “And, where we haven't had a game with the 21s for a while, it's good for us to get a run out.”

Academy talent Armani Little (2) and Jake Hesketh scored in the friendly win, while Seager, Josh Debayo and Harrison Reed all started the game.

James Ward-Prowse admitted recently that it is harder than ever for the club's youngsters to break into the first-team. Click here to read that story.
