LIVERPOOL are confident that Philippe Coutinho will return from injury for the Capital One Cup quarter final against Saints on Wednesday.

Coutinho, one of the Reds’ most potent attacking threats, suffered a hamstring injury in a 4-1 win at Manchester City ten days ago.

The Brazil international missed the 1-0 win over Swansea, but is set to make his return at St Mary’s, which will certainly give Ronald Koeman’s side food for thought ahead of the crunch tie.

Countinho, who was once linked with a move to Saints when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, will be all too familiar to the St Mary’s faithful.

The 23-year-old scored a 30-yard screamer in a 2-0 victory over Saints last season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "Philippe had a very intensive session [on Saturday], but we decided two or three days ago that we didn't want to risk him for this game (Swansea).

"Now I think he's fit. I saw him in the dressing room and he looks good. I'll have to talk with him tomorrow – I think he's ready for Southampton."
