ORIOL Romeu believes that Fraser Forster will be the best goalkeeper in the world if he continues to perform like he did in the goalless draw at Arsenal.

Forster was in sensational form, making a series of outstanding saves to deny the title-chasing Gunners a goal as Saints came away with a hard-earned point at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Romeu, who had a solid game alongside Victor Wanyama in defensive midfield, was simply amazed by Forster’s performance as he made it four successive clean sheets since his return from long-term injury.

“If he plays every game like this, he’s going to be one of the best in the world –no doubt,” said the Spaniard. “We’ll see how he goes, but today he was amazing.”

He added: “Fraser has had good very games [since his comeback] and has showed that again.

“Today was more difficult because they had more chances. He had more shots to save. He did all of them perfectly.

“I’m happy for him because after long- term injury it’s difficult to come back and have those feelings back. So it’s good and I’m very pleased to see him back in the team.”

Despite Arsenal’s best efforts, hitting ten shots on target in the draw, Forster has now not conceded a goal in 360 minutes.

“Fraser was everywhere. Even dangerous balls they were trying to flick over him, he was standing strong, stopping those balls and saving those balls,” Romeu said.

“That gives you confidence. The defence was also very good. The whole team defensively was very strong in this performance.

“That is what gave us the points.”

With Forster making sure seventh-placed Saints remained firmly in the game in London, Romeu felt that they could have made it a second smash and grab victory in a row after the late win at Manchester United 11 days ago.

“We’re alive at 0-0, maybe one counter attack,” said the 24-year-old. “We didn’t create that final chance because the last pass wasn’t good enough.

“If we had been more clinical in those passes maybe we could have even scored one goal.

“That’s good, but we need to do that better in the next few games.”
