Jose Fonte and Victor Wanyama have given Saints a boost after declaring themselves fit to face Aston Villa on Saturday.
Saints skipper Fonte and powerhouse midfielder Wanyama were both taken to hospital in Liverpool following the 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.
Fonte had taken a blow to the head and Wanyama to his ribs.
They were able to travel back that night after being given the all clear and have successfully returned to training, meaning they are available for the match against the Premier League’s bottom club at Villa Park.
The only first team regular squad member still missing is Charlie Austin.
Despite that, and Villa’s plight, Saints boss Ronald Koeman is still expecting a tough game.
“It’s very difficult because if you don’t win nobody is happy, and if you win maybe for most of the people it’s normal. It’s always the most difficult to play,” he reckoned.
“They play home, they need to win the support of the fans back and they will start seriously the game.
“It’s all about ourselves, and if we are really focussed on the game and that’s the work we’ve had to do to prepare for the game.”
