SAINTS youngster Jason McCarthy picked up Wycombe Wanderers’ Supporters’ Player of the Year award after an eye-catching season on loan at the League Two club.

The central defender was recognised by the club’s fans after featuring in every match since joining on a temporary deal from St Mary’s in October.

Wanderers stated: “McCarthy has excelled in light and dark blue quarters, featuring in every match since joining on loan from Premier League side Southampton in October, contributing to one of the best defensive records in the Football League and scoring two goals against AFC Wimbledon and Oxford United.”

The 20-year-old wrote on Twitter: “Thank you so much @wwfcofficial fans for the votes. Very humbled to have won Supporters Player of the Season. It means a lot #WWFC”

McCarthy, who can play at centre-back or right-back, made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace last season and was captain of the club's under-21s.

He then left for Adams Park in October initially for one month before the deal was extended.

The academy graduate signed a new two-and-a-half year deal at Saints back in February 2015.
