Graziano Pelle has reacted “ok” to being dropped from the squad to face Manchester City last weekend.
That was the verdict of manager Ronald Koeman, who left his big striker out of the 18 for the game at St Mary’s after being unimpressed with the Italian’s attitude in training.
Koeman hinted he has not decided whether Pelle will return for the game at Tottenham on Sunday, and will wait for another day of training before making the call.
He said: “He’s reacted ok. What I expected.
“But still we have one session to go and then finally we make decisions and then we make decisions about the squad for this Sunday.”
Koeman confirmed he has no fresh injury worries for the game at Spurs, and expects a reaction from Mauricio Pochettino’s side after their draw at Chelsea handed the title to Leicester.
“I expect them to be strong,” he admitted.
“Of course they get maybe a big disappointment last Monday fighting for the title.
“It was a tough match, maybe both teams were a little bit too worked up in that game, but they play their last at home and it’s a fantastic game.
“In my opinion some teams play fantastic football. One of them is Tottenham and one of them is Southampton.
“That makes it nice because it’s all about football.”
